I did a search and learned quite a lot already, but wonder if anyone knows which lowering kit works the best? Also, for those who have installed a peg lowering kit, has the loss of ground clearance caused any particular problems? Also, has anyone installed a peg lowering kit and found that they did not need to do something about the shift lever and brake lever?

I had the one from Suburban Machinery on my '08 for a while. The extra legroom was nice, but overall I didn't care for them. I found myself scraping my left foot sometimes going around corners. And even though I adjusted it as much as I could, it put the shifter in an odd position relative to my foot which felt kind of strange; I never did get used to it. So I ended up taking them back off.

So I can't ride the R1200R for more than an hour or so - I'm a tall guy with long legs and it just doesn't have the legroom I need.

My solution to not enough legroom on the R1200R was to buy an R1200GS.

Thanks, that makes sense. My legs have trouble reaching the ground on a GS. I did have Bill Mayer build my saddle higher than standard by quite a bit, which helps, but on a long ride my old bones scream for more room.

This post makes me feel good about my 30" inseam. With a Corbin seat I'm just far enough away from the ground to be a little uncomfortable when I have to put a foot down. BUT I've done 12-18 hour days and the only problem was getting tired, when I got off my legs and butt were fine. I never thought about it but I can see where moving the pegs forward or down just doesn't work on this bike. I wondered why some guys got rid of the R1200Rs and moved on to RTs or GS models, now I understand one reason why.

You might look at the kits offered by Wunderlich. I have a set on an 1150R and find them comfortable.

I think it's a real YMMV situation. I have the Suburban Machinery kit, which is of very good quality and works just fine for me...after I fabbed a new shift lever for different geometry.

I notice no cornering clearance issues, but then again I'm a fully-fledged geezer.
