I changed the transmission oil at 600 miles, using Redline synthetic. I would like to change it again, but:

A. I forgot what viscosity, and the manual does not appear to include this info.
B. I do not know the capacity; yeah, up to the threads of the filler hole, but there must be an actual volume associated with that.

I've got a bottle of RL 75w90, so I am hoping that's the stuff. If it's not, I'm open to suggestions.

On an unrelated note, I'd love to learn how to do a valve adjustment. I learn by watching, doing, and asking questions. If anyone is doing their valves in the Seattle area, I'd trade beer and food for the training.

I watched it and now i kinda feel confident that i can make it.

75W-90 is fine.. it should be GL5 oil. I usually use 75W-140 because it seems to help the transmission shift smoothly when it gets hot (which it does sitting over the catalytic converter).. but manual calls for 75W-90.

I don't know the exact quantity, but if you have a quart or a liter - that's more then enough. It sort of depends on how much of the old oil you get out, having it warm helps, letting it drip overnight helps.. but since mine has looked just like it did when I put it in, I don't obsess over the transmission oil. Every 24,000 miles or so seems fine.

That's a great film about a guitar prodigy who gets ALS and 20-something years later he's still creating music -- despite the death sentence-- by using his eyes to control a system created by his dad. Jason Becker is the musician version of Steven Hawking. The Jason Becker story hits home for me because my cousin died from the disease a decade ago. Like Becker, my cousin was supported by his friends and family. His buddies still dropped by to catch the football game with him, even though he could no longer move or speak.

Sorry for the tangent there, but the Becker film is inspirational, as is mine (in a different way). Check them out if you can.

Thanks for the information. Changing the oil, adjusting the valves, and general maintenance has always been a problem. At 15 I twisted a bolt off in a started changing a selenoid....changed the started. I don't want to break my running bike. My bike just hit 21k and I'll soon be doing most or all the maintenance. Good information.
