Help, my2008 r1200r will start with the clutch in sometimes but not all the time. It only starts all the time when it is in neutral. Yes I do have the kick stand up when I try and start it with the clutch in. Any Ideas??
Thanks

Primary suspect is the switch at the kickstand that tells the big brain if the stand is up or down. You can try looking at it for signs of damage and check to see if the contacts are clean and not corroded. It is pictured on diagram 61_2976 - VARIOUS SWITCHES/RELAY on the fiche located at

Also check the clutch switch.

If you don't own a GS-911, this is a great excuse to buy one..

It will read out the "state" of the switches as seen by the engine control module, so you'll know why it isn't starting except in neutral.

I have had this happen twice now with my 2009 R1200R. Both times called for replacement of the clutch switch. Mine were still under warranty.

I found the problem I adjusted the lever to far in so I had a short easy pull but then it didn't move the lever enough to work the switch.
Thanks for the help

Thanks for the follow up. It is always good to hear the rest of the story. This happen to me once. I loosened the adjustment screw on the clutch switch and moved it around making sure I could hear it click. That seemed to take care of it for me. I purchased a used switch online just to keep in my tool box. Glad you figured it out.
