Exhaust Flap?

Stopped for fuel yesterday and when I turned the key on and the bike did it's boot up sequence it made a noise like a rusty hinge squeaking????? I cycled it again with the same result. I had my buddy turn the key on and off while I poked around the engine and discovered the noise was coming from the item called the exhaust flap. Anyone else have this issue? I believe this item is only on '11 and newer bikes and is located between the cat and the slip on.

As a side note I tried again this morning with the bike cold and it did not make the noise.

Nope, it's not on my 2010 model. Must be '11 onward.

It's on the 2011 bikes onwards. Yes I have one and I noticed the same squeak the last couple of starts. You've confirmed the location I suspected. To oil or not to oil.................

It is on 2011 and up, supposed to be an "Electronically controlled exhaust flap for a superior powerful sound" but I don't hear that. No squeak on mine but will keep an ear on it.

I'm 16K into the bike now and that occurred on the second day of an 844 mile trip. I didn't notice any change in the way it ran. Just the noise before startup.

Slowtorque Thanks for the correction.

Shakey I wouldn't know what to put on it that wouldn't burn off???
