Scottish midges?

Anybody north of the border know when the midges arrive? Or if they have arrived already?

I am planning a ride from North Yorkshire up to Thurso via Forth road bridge and Inverness probably starting this coming Sunday. Trouble is I am alergic to midge bites and hope to be there before they are!

Any help would be appreciated...

allegedly, an Avon cosmetic product called "Skin so Soft" is said to be an excellent midge repellant to the extent that even special forces swear by it.
