My '95 R1100R low fuel light is haunted. No matter what the fuel level, it can come on. Sometimes when nearly empty it will be off, and right now with a full tank, it's on.

I inspected the sensor when I replaced the fuel filter recently but didnt see any obvious problems. It was sliding freely in its housing.

Anyone ever experienced this or have any suggestions? Should I just disconnect the light and forget about it?

Seems we're riding the same bike .
I have the same problem with my fuel light.
When it's cold, it won't go out at all, now it's getting warmer it seems to work better.
But I'm used to an extra light on my dash right now, and even a little worried when it's out
Riding hard over a severe bump will work (sometimes)

I think you have inspired me to try and fix mine. It usually doesn't come on when it should as in before I had to push the bike down the freeway. Looks like the signal goes from sending unit to something called a Dail Needle Damping to the light. Havent located the Dial Needle Damping yet. Trouble is good riding weather is upon us so I may not get to it for a while.

I experienced that problem, too. Might be a very simple fix. The 3-4 inch long green mesh strainer that goes on the bottom of the fuel pump may be blocking the free movement of the float, therefore sticking sometimes. More likely at the bottom of it's movement range. It gets deformed by contacting the inside of the tank as you re-insert the unit (strainer, pump, filter, hoses) back through the hole. Try tweaking the angle of attachment & confirm free float movement. Hope that helps. Sorry for the rant, if you've already checked that possibility. Keep 'em flying!
