how to fix a scratched tank

Hi,

I have a scratch on my gas tank that goes down to the metal. It also goes over a sticker, but that part appears to not be down to the metal.

Any tips on how I might get this fixed? Should I take it to a detail shop? how much might that cost?

thanks.

Look for a local motorcycle paint shop for this. Or perhaps a good local auto body repair shop could repair the damage and respray, blending it in with the rest of the tank. The original decals from BMW are obscenely expensive. These days I believe any local sign shop could duplicate the decals and this could be incorporated into the repair job by the paint shop. If you are not very experienced with spray finishing using the modern urethanes and clear coats, I would not suggest trying to do this yourself if you value the end result. Around here in central NC, I could get my blemished tank repaired and refinished for about two hundred dollars or less I'd guess.

ouch. at $200, it hardly seems worth it for such a small scratch. perhaps i will just have to live with it.

thanks for the info!

Fix it and you will surely create another scratch shortly thereafter. Haha

200 is steep for a scratch.

Did you try googling for touch up paint?

This place sells BMW OEM touch up paint pens for $18.

Is there no paint doctors in your area? We have plenty of them in Germany. They specialize in all kind of scratch repair for little $$$ ... 200 sounds much to me ...
