F800GS/Aprila Mirrors on an R1200R - my stupid story

So, I get in my head that I want to put the slick looking F800GS mirrors on my R1200R. I read a post here that talks about the BMW mirrors being the same as what are installed on an Aprila, which are about $50 less each, except that the base/mounts are different on the Aprila (different threads supposedly).

Here's the thread:
viewtopic.php?f=20&t=20622&hilit=Tuono

There are thread adapters, or you can just order the F800 mounts and use them ($16 each). So in my usual idiotic way of doing things like this, I order the bases and rubber covers from Max BMW, with the expectations that ordering the mirrors from my local Aprila dealer wouldn't be a problem. I call the Aprila dealer, get the parts guy, and ask about ordering the mirrors (gave him the aprila part numbers as well) He says no problem, he'll call me back that afternoon. A couple of days pass without a call, so I call back. Same guy, "doesn't remember" talking to me. Ok, try this again. He'll call me back. Another couple of days, no call. I call back again. "Oh yeah, I still have to look that up, haven't gotten around to it" No "Sorry", no nothing. So, just so I can make sure to spite myself, and with my blood pressure about to make me bleed from my ears, I tell him if it's too much trouble to do his gadd@mn job, don't bother, hang up, and I go and order them from Max. For an extra $100. They arrive today, and for that extra $100, they come with the mounts. Lol.

Long story short, they mounted up and look great. I'm glad I did it. And now I have an extra set of the hardware. So, if anyone wants the mounts and sleeves, you can have them for free. Just post here, and Ill drop them in the mail.

To be fair, the first "I'll take them" gets them. I'll PM you for your address.

Sigh

Update: Rubber covers going to SDMAX. Still have the base/mounts. Let me know if anyone wants them.

I have seen stupider stories. That is a little more on the entertaining side (for us, not you...)

Sorry for your pain, but I'd love the sleeves. I've got the mounts but Not the sleeves. With the mounts and wideners, the mirrors sit higher and of course wider than the F800GS mirrors which of course look a lot better without adapter mounts and wideners.....

Anyway I'd love the rubber like sleeves that cover the adapter....Happy to pay postage and cost....thanks John

Sometimes dealers have terrible employees. I know your pain. It is even worse when you are broke down waiting for parts you thought they ordered, but never did... #-o

Sure, they're yours. Send me you're address in a PM and I'll drop them in the mail.

I still have the adapters, if anyone wants them...

mchad, picking up my mirrors this weekend, thanks again for the parts info...

When I ordered them, the parts guy didn't know that the part numbers included all the hardware you mentioned ... I let him know that I had discussed the purchase on the forum and he double checked and came back surprised...sure enough, included all the parts.... I'll let you know how it goes when I actually pick them up.

Those of you who have experienced "service excellence" at your dealership or parts counter, let them know they're doing a good job... because it seems to be harder to find these days....
