"As far as model go, the BMW R1200GS series still reigns supreme, accounting for 28,866 units in total worldwide (18,413 units for the R1200GS, 10,453 for the R1200GS Adventure). The GS dominance continues with the F800GS selling 9,829 units worldwide, and was followed closely by the BMW R1200RT (9,540 units) & BMW S1000RR (9,044 units). Meanwhile, the recently launched K1600GT/GTL accounted for 8,019 units, while the rest of the line-up broke down as follows; F800R (7,986 units), R1200R (7,310 units), and the F650GS (6,145 units). "

Interesting that the R1200R sold 7310 copies. That's more than I would have expected.

The R1200R seems to be a well kept secret. Funny how a brief test ride will sell so many of them.

I would hazard to guesstimate that the R's decent sales numbers aren't generated by US customers but rather by Europeans, many of who like naked bikes.

What makes me kinda sad is how many buyers buy the wrong bike for their needs, not least by judging how many GS and RT garage queens that's for sale at any given moment.

Just the other day I saw a really nice looking 1150GS Adv, 10 years old with less than 20k km on the odo, and my thought was, "poor guy that didn't buy a bike he would come to actually use".

BMWs first run of 2011 R1200Rs for the US sold out quite quickly this year. Maybe riders are becoming more discerning...

In my local club - there are now 10% of the riders riding R1200Rs.. beats out R1200RTs and R1200GSs.. and the local dealership has learned to keep a number of them in stock because they sell easily.

People finally woke up.. as we get older, less (and lighter) is sometimes much better.
