Strange.....given the price a newly used '11 R would cost, why wouldn't you just head down to your local BMW dealer an order a new one.

Just my .02
Keep looking and be patient. I was about to sign the papers on a brand new '11 from the dealer and then a family member who did some looking (unbeknownst to me) found an '11 with 1100 miles on it at a Harley dealer, of all places, about 250 miles from me. Guy who had traded it in was a collector and traded it in for 2 brand new HD CVO's. So went from paying over 17k with all the bells and whistles for brand new to paying $11,500 for a bike with less than 1200 miles on it. AND it had the BMW side cases.

Be patient and keep your eyes open!

Ric, might seem strange to you in the US but there is a five month wait for OZ. The market is smaller in OZ and apart from demo stock everything is mostly presold. Dealers do hold some stock but nothing new in stock of RR Classic. I sold my 07 RR faster than I expected.

Just a thought I might be wrong.....

Cheers

Is it any help that Procycles had an ex-demo black, with white striping, Classic for sale at their Hornsby shop?

Oh, so they sold the one I was looking at....... sorry, I was only trying to help.

I saw it there maybe 10 or 12 days ago.

It was a nice looking bike, but the spoke wheel business just doesn't do it for me, but I was interested in it being the only test-rideable new model, with the better looking passenger seat.

The love of my life had looked at the 2011 models and sniggered at the thin wee seat offered for pillions, but the newer model at least looks like some effort has been made for passenger comfort.

Hi again, Mikes.

I was at Procycles, Horsnby, today..... a few hours ago..... and the Classic that I mentioned is still sitting there on their upstairs showroom floor.

The price tag sez $21,990, ex-demo, fully loaded <shrug> (I dunno what options are available. It does have a tiny wee windscreen.)

Now they are having a sale, and, if you ain't trading anything in, I'd hazard a guess that waving 20 grand at them might get their attention.

For our US cousins, no, BMWs sold in Australia are not actually gold plated, they just tend to be very expensive. :(

Hi CrazyCam,

Thanks for the heads up. Okay I'l check it out. To be honest my plan is to keep this bike for at least five years plus so I might just go with a new one. The biks could have been on a test ride when I was last in because I didn't bother to ask if they had one in stock. BTW are there any new sales guys there?

Cheers

Hi again Mike.

Look mate, I hold no brief for Procycles....... it was just you asked, and the damned thing was there.

I know for a fact that there is another, black with white Classic in Oz, 'cos it was at the motorcycle show.

To be perfectly honest, I dunno even if their price for a demo is sufficiently lower than that for a new bike. <shrug>

Having said that, a BMW R1200R demo is probably a better bet than say an S1000RR demo or a Suzi GSXR 1000, which WILL have been flogged as a demo bike.

As for the sales folk... dunno.

They change sales folk like other folk change underpants.

I spoke to Domenic, the BMW spare parts bloke, 'cos he's been there a while, and he and I know each other.

Mikes -

Procycles at Hornsby are good guys. I got my R12R from St Peters but I have test-ridden a Speed Triple, Super-Duke as well as the R12R through the Hornsby store. They hand you the keys and ask you to be back before closing. Being 10kms from the Old Pacific Highway means that you can get a good feel for a bike on some of the best twisties near Sydney.

They also sell Triumph, KTM (road/trail) and Suzuki (road/trail) so they cope with a lot of different clientele.

Hi Tom - I bought my 07 R12R from them. So I know what you are talking about. I bought my 02 R1150R from the guys at blacktown got it cheap because they were getting out of BMW. Really in Sydney Procycles are the go. I would give Frasers a BIG no thanks. The service manger is one of the best in the business.

Cheers Mate.
