So I buy the BMW LED tail light for my new r12r. I get the light, and a three wire harness, as the led uses a single connector, vs. three "blade" connectors on the original incandescent. Hook up the harness as per instructions (wire colors all match), plug in connector, turn the bike on, and get light. Running light is on, and it gets bright when brakes are applied. Very nice. Only now I get a lamp warning, whish I was half expecting. Odd part is the BMW LED turn signals I previously installed didn't throw a warning. Brought it up to MAX BMW in Ct. for my 600m service and asked them to code the ECU for the LED. They said they would look at it. Tech came out later with the tail light in his hand and said it was broken, pointing out only two (instead of three) pins in the connector socket on the housing. Says a pin is missing and I need a new one. So I order a replacement, which arrives today. Which also only has the same two pins. So I call the service manager back, and they say I'll have to bring it in for additional troubleshooting. When I politely ask if she can look up if there is a coding procedure for this, she says I need to bring it in. Now, I really don't want to pay for hours of troubleshooting, when in several forums I read that the ECU needs a recode. I Just don't know why I'm having a hard time convincing this dealer, but I am feeling like I may need to go elsewhere...

Any thoughts on this?

It's too bad that they are 240 miles away. I spoke to the service advisor at Manhattan BMW who is looking into the procedure for me. He said they have done a number of retrofits and have reprogrammed. He just wants to confirm the procedure for a 2012 model.
