My PR2's were down to the ware bars and were starting to be nasty handling that triangle shape with the top cut off, not fun to say the least. So on went a set of PR3's last night, mount and balanced and the clock starts at 23485 miles. Hopefully these will go for 6-8k miles. I think the PR2's got about 6k on them 4k that i put on them and 2k that the previous owner did.

What's your real world take on PR3's usage?

I just put a pair of PR3s on as well.
Got 15000 km out of the last set of Z6s, but couldn't get my hands on a pair of Z6s or Z8s this time round.
Up until now I had been a welded-on Metzeler man, but the Australian Metzeler distributor had no stock nor even an ETA
The PR3s feel good but then again new tyres always feel good after riding around on as you say triangles with the tops cut off.
It will be interesting to see what mileage (kilometreage?) I get.
If they're better than the Z6s in the wet I'll be very impressed.

I installed a set of PR-3s a couple months ago. I certainly hope there's more than 6k in them. I got 15k out of my Diablo Stratas. I do like the way they handle though, and they look like they should be a good rain tire.

I"m ordering a pair from my local guy tomorrow.. I'll keep you posted on the mileage, how they do, all that... Doing a lot more riding two up these days.. so I'll be interested in the comparisons everyone has.
The last two sets this season have been Roadsmarts.. and they've been.. ok.. nothing to jump up and down about.. I did have a pair of Conti Road Attacks I LOVED riding twisties in.. but they wore out WAAAYYY to fast for any long distance touring...

I have a PR3 in the front and a PR2 on the back. Aussie dealer could not get a PR3 in time. So far very impressed with the handling. Very good in wet weather. I have done about 500km on them.

I had some Metzellers on the bike previously.

I am also keen to see how many km's I get. I do hope it is more that 6-8K!!!

I have a pair on the rockster with about 3000k's on them and they are great. don't look worn at all. riding across the country from perth west australia to phillip island for the motogp in october so i hope they last. all up will do about 9500k's there and back. will keep you posted on how they fair.

I got about 4 hours in the rain on recent PR2s on the way home from a 2,300 WA to CA trip last week - so impressed with the way those tires handled the downpour - kind of forgot to worry about the handling (which was great since I was so focused on trying to see ahead of me). From research, looks like the PR3s are just a fancied up version of the PR2s, although I did see some gnarly photos on the web of PR3 prematurely torn up.

+1 for me also! Great tire with roughly 3000 miles on it now and hardly looks worn.

I almost got to the ware bars may be had a 1/32" left my rear road 3. But at 30328 miles I picked up some road debri so i got +/- 6800 miles out of it. Might have been able to get another 1000 miles out....


How many miles have yall been getting out of road 3 rear tires?

I will be putting another set of PR3' on my rockster when this set finally wear out. so far I have done 16,700 k's and I will get another 3000 k's easly. Trip across Australia and back home to Perth WA plus 300k commute and playing around on the weekends. Best tyre I have used in the wet, had some decent rain in WA in the last few months. Not as much as the east coast of Australia. Definatley TWO THUMBS UP for the Michelin man!!!

i got a rear going to mounted in the next week. looks wicked good. i got about 8k on PR1 rear

Pilot Roads for me too!! Had them on my last three bikes and they're excellent all round!
Got PR2s on the R at the moment and have around 5000 miles on them.
Great confidence booster in the wet....they don't feel 'skittish' at all and
you can chase them through curves in the dry with good feedback.
When I renew it'll be PR3s.

I have now done 17000 km (10600m) on a set of PR3s and even though they are starting to get that squared off feel about them, they have enough tread for a few more thousand. I've already bought a new set and am looking forward to eventually fitting them and getting that new tyre ride.
After 17000 km the rear tyre looks like -

Debating getting the PR3s (front and rear) soon. I have PR2s on now and they've got 9-10k miles on them. However, the front tire is the one that needs to be replaced (1/32" left). The rear looks good (5/32). Odd, I know.

Of course, the dilemma is to keep the rear and only change the front tire (to a PR2) or to change them both (PR3s). I hate to waste a tire, but I'm not sure about riding with one new tire and one that's broken in. I've always changed the tires as a set.

i know have about 800 miles on the PR# rear and love that tire but it is hard on the foot pegs. gonna grab a front one soon. those pics with 10k on that tire are pretty amazing.

Get the PR3s and change them as need be. The treads are very similar and I think they would play together well.

Got the PR3s. Of course, one week later and I see that Metzler Z8/Z6 sets are on sale locally for $199. Quite happy with the PR3s, but I'm wondering about picking up the Metzlers and storing them. Anyone here have thoughts on the Metzlers vs. PR2s or PR3s?

This is a bit OT, but it is easier to change the PR3s than the Z6 if you're doing it yourself. Those Z6s are TIGHT.

That's an awfully good price on Z8s. I tell you though, the PR3s are very very good. Are the Z8s supposed to wear longer than the Z6s or PR 2,3s? Or are they just stickier.

I have now experience with two sets of PR3s. My rear looked just like yours at nearly the exact mileage, like it would go another few thousand miles--he!!, I got well over 14k on the fronts. But what I noticed was I started feeling tar snakes, that little sphincter tightening slip at that mileage. YMMV of course, but a new rear put a stop to that. Riding in the city and commuting I didn't notice the slip, only on sweepers at speed.
I am going to swap out my rear now with just under 10 on it. I am preparing for a long trip, prb about 5-6 k miles and I don't want to hassle with that along the way. I'll keep it around as a spare.

Changing our the rear with a new PR3 was the tire change from hell.

It was hard to break the bead, harder than usual, then getting the new one on was a real bee-otch, and yes, I did put the new and the old in the hot sun to soften, almost too hot to touch. And yes, I used lots of the NAPA lube.

Then I couldn't get the bead to seat and I tried all the tricks--lots of lube, the rope around the circumference, the air chuck with the valve out, bouncing the tire, sliding it around on the rim. The only thing I didn't try was asking my wife for help.
Finally I broke down and brought it to a local Ducati/Tirumph dealer, but they were closed, then I tried a tire place and couldn't find it.
Ugh

So this am, I put it out in the sun, on the rim, tried with the standard tire filler attachment--no go.
Took the valve out of the stem and used an air chuck, pop...pop...voila!
75 psi, though I did try 150 along the way.

I think I am getting too old for this. It was hard.
So now it is sitting in the basement w 47 psi, off the bike and I will check tomorrow and then remount on the bike.
Hardest exchange I've ever done.
