Well, I removed the right side BMW hard case from the bike last nite to drain and refill the final drive. Piece of cake. Reinstalled bag and locked it down. Had some trouble positioning it where I thought it fit. Took a 60 mile ride through the country including some interstate at lunch. Got home, no rightside bag. Crap! There goes 300 bucks! Retraced the first few miles of my ride, and nothing. Probably would not want it back anyway if it came off at 65 mph (which it likely did). Anybody but me ever do this?

You would be surprised, those cases are tougher than the Samsonite Gorilla.
If you have time to retrace your ride, and you find it, it may be nothing but scuffed.

My right case took a direct hit of the full bike weight at 25 miles per hour, and never left the bike, and was used for 3 more years.

That should have been your first clue. When they latch onto the bracket correctly you can tell they are in the "right" place. Also, if you put your name and phone # somewhere on outside of the case, there's a better chance someone will be able to return it to you.

Hope you can find it. Scuffs and scratches aren't hard to repair (kinda!)

Thats a crappy little tale. I am sorry that happened slowtorque. Take another look, maybe it is there somewhere. Even if you need to replace the lid, it would still be cheaper.

Bummer! Keep an eye on the popular BMW forums (BMWMOA, iBMWR, BMWRA, local MOA chapters, lost and found classifieds in the paper, too). I've seen postings there when people have found errant hard bags.

Sorry to hear it. Happened to me when I first got my bike. I was going about 45 mph, hit a bump saw my right case bouncing down the road from my right mirror. I too, had just put my case back on (improperly). I thought that was the end of the case but it survived with only a bit of road rash on the bike-side half of the case, the outer visible face of the case somehow didn't touch the road. Since then, checking to see whether my cases are on properly is part of my pre-ride inspection.

sjbmw is right - these cases are tough! If no one's picked it up yet, it's most likely still useable.

Last time my BMW hard case hit the road...................I hit the road with it!

Stopped to fill up my tank on a long wet journey and while filling up noticed my right side bag was bearly hanging on. I have since installed the wire clip through the lowerer peg of the bag for a confident reassuring ride. No need to worry with the metal retaining clips in place. Just carry a pair of needle noise plyers if I want tho take them off.
