Wire Ties

I have an 04 R1150R with 7000 miles and I am the second owner. I saw the post on cutting the ties but I thought it said on 02 or 03 model years. I checked mine and they are tied together, would you suggest cutting them? And then would you tie or tape them back to hold the bundle together? Any suggestions?

Hey Ski :)...I got an 04 not long ago, and the ties were very tight on mine, although at first when I reviewed them I thought they weren't too bad. I went ahead and snipped them and then massaged the wires around, getting familiar with them, and sure enough I saw a couple of little torn places in the insulation, although I don't have any issues right now. I put some liquid tape on them. Right now I am running some sae connectors back to a powerblock so I can attach various devices when I need to without pulling the tank. These wires will go along the path of the wire bundles where the original ties were located. I will put new ties on, but use wider ones and will keep them loose enough to prevent chafing but keep them in one place.

Tape has its place, but the point of a tie in this case, IMHO, is to limit movement while allowing movement, if you get my meaning. Flexing the front wheel back and forth can cause any binding points to eventually cut into wiring. Good luck!
