i assume that refers to on board computer, what does it really do, sorry if its silly questions?
count the trip miles, monitors tires?

Trip1, trip2, average mph, average mpg, miles left in tank, current mpg and air temperature. Might be a few other functions as well.

Trip 1 and Trip 2 are functions within the instrument cluster, and are available even if the bike lacks OBC.

Oh, didn't realize the trip counters were not part of the OBC system. Thanks for the clarification.

As you guessed, it does tire pressure monitoring (if so equipped). I had the alert pop up yesterday, turned out there was a staple in my tire. Good system.

The miles-to-empty is great (as long as your fuel gauge is still working). I use that function alone more than all the others combined.

I like the temperature function and the MPG function.

I imagine the low fuel warning light is an element of the OBC as well.

My favorite is the themometer. Without it I don't know whether to be hot or cold. I've been looking for an aftermarket rain gauge so I'll know when to be wet.

The low fuel light in the riders manual isn't presented as a part of the OBC. I think it's independent.

LOL. I really like the thermometer, too...but it worries me. I installed one on my previous bike, and found myself fixating on it to the detriment of paying attention to traffic. I removed it. I'm doing better with the one on the R12, but I probably should leave the display on another setting.

Can someone describe how to access the current MPG? I've only ever seen the average MPG (I reset at every fuel fill). I even re-read the OM but there no mention there. Mine is a 2010.

Current consumption is a new field of the OBC in 2011. In previous years, it's only temperature, average speed, average consumption and range. That's it, I'm upgrading to the ’11 smoked grey metallic.

Fairly sure that its primary role is to let you know when black ice is likely around. Necessary? Not really, but neither is ASC, ABS, TPM and all the other baked-in insurance.

For models up to 2010, you can reset the average MPG by holding down the Info button. The "fresh" number will bounce around a bit for a few seconds, and then settle on what you're currently getting.

Not a perfect solution, but a solution nonetheless.

Thanks for the clarification. I thought I had hear people talking about instantaneous MPG on the pre-2011 models some time ago. . . must have been drug-related somehow.

I believe it'll give you the oil level too, or at least a low level warning. Thats why I spec'd it on my bike

I think current mpg is missing, or I don't know how to find it. The manual clearly shows it should be there and I see all the other OBC functions...is it just me?

Is this on a 2011? It doesn't on the original R12R.. ('07-'10)

Ah.... "dealerbabble" - I'll believe it when I see it from BMW. Dealers will say almost anything at any time just to sound like they know what they're talking about (they usually don't..)
