Does anyone know whether a non-ABS version of this bike will be available? If so, I suspect it won't be for some time but I'm willing to wait. I have the R1150R that I absolutely love and plan to keep until I give it to my son for his high school graduation (shhh....please don't tell his mother) but I'm looking forward to getting the R1200R Classic.

Based on what my local BMW Motorrad dealership said and anecdotal reports on this site, 2011 will be the year of limited supply of R12Rs. If what my dealer says is true, and they are getting two or three R12Rs for all of the 2011 model year, you'll have a tough time finding a non-ABS model.

I stopped in and checked out Falcone Motorsports this week In Indianapolis, ( nice folks ). One of the sales men told me if I wanted a new R12R it would be tough there. The classic is a LIMITED EDITION they will only get a couple. He has peolpe lining up putting money down for the Classic. He did have a new red one with ABS still in the crate so I didn't get to drool on it.

The dealer I talked to said there will not be any bikes without ABS. For every customer that comes in looking for a non-ABS bike, twenty walk out the door if a bike on the showroom doesn't have ABS. That's BMW's customer...

I spoke with my local dealer today and confirmed that I can 'special order' a non-ABS R1200R Classic. It has to be ordered by July 1st and they're researching what the turn time will be. I'm not in any hurry since I have several bikes and I REALLY want a non-ABS model.

No ABS, tube tires...for a fee, maybe they can put Bing carbs and a choke lever on it too.

Don't forget the sealed-beam headlamp (included in the "moon-mission technology package.") Now that's "Classic..."

OK,OK. I'll bite. My ABS has saved me from (at least) two dumps in 14000 miles. I didn't even realize I was panicking during a "panic" stop. The system just said: "Whoaa. Lighten up on the brakes." Quickly. It is really one of the most useful options I didn't want. (The other is grip heaters.) Am I missing some advantage here? (Also: Panniers are expensive. But they make cheap sliders! MoTech Crashbars have paid for themselves many times - maybe I should get another hobby!)
