hi new to the forum and to bmw, just bought a grey (not my favorite color, but well got a good deal) 04 r1150r that rides like nothing i have riden before, prior to this bike I had a 2008 ducati multistrada 1100s very enjoyable ride also quick. but the rr has a more comfortable ride. i had a couple of questions if you can help me out? wondering if the pc680 would be a good battery and i see theres a couple of different 680's.. also about the people who cut the exhaust, was the performence of the bike the same and does it mess with the computer in any way. any tips to make this bike a bit more responsive at the twist of the throttle.
thanks befor hand sorry for the misspelled words and looking foward to learn anything and everythingg about rr's great bike..

I don't know about the battery but I would leave the exhaust alone and just ride it for a while.
At least then if you do anything you'll have a better idea if it's better or worse.

you won't notice any performance changes (maybe minor changes on the top end)if you pull the can off the cat, just a change in sound.

thanks for the replies y will definitely take your advise and change nothing till I get used to the riding style of the bike and if it only changes the sound it might not be worth it. already ordered the pc 680 from odyssey will see if it works out. thanks

The PC680 is an excellent battery. Highly recommended. It will take some fiddling to get the terminals hooked up, and you'll have to stuff something in the battery box to hold it in place since it's a bit smaller than the OEM battery. No big deal...
With regards to the exhaust, I pulled my muffler off and replaced it with a plain old tailpipe I got at Pep Boys. To make it look a bit better I painted it with black exhaust header paint. It has a nice, deep, mellow sound without being obnoxious at all.
With regards to making it more responsive...there's not much you can do but learn to dig deeper into the throttle. It has a LOT of travel!

It sounds much better w/ the stock can off. Just take it off-- it is 2 nuts and can easily go back on. I noticed that the shifting was easier due to better throttle response. My R has 30k miles on it. Others' experience may differ.
