Well, I didn't get anything from my Christmas list; got something better---an iPad.
This seems like it will be perfect for m/c travel and communicating on the road! Haven't had time to search for iPad posts on R1150R.net, will be doing that soon.
Meanwhile, anyone out there have suggestions for best protective cases for travel, best apps for m/c use..
Based on my iPhone use my favorite travel apps are:
- Maps (google map app that comes with the iPhone
The Weather Channel and Who Is Hot for weather forecasting on the road
Twitterific for current events via twitter
Wikipanion for searching wikipedia (cause there are always unanswered questions)

Hi Dave,
Congrats on the new iPad. I've been trying to resist purchasing one for a while now.
Marc (mcooperstein) has posted about his iPad, and I believe Chitown has one also.
Let us know how you like it.

For the road, I got a netbook from MSI. Way cheaper than an iPad, the same size screen, though a bit thicker and heavier, and it has a useable keyboard. Your milage may vary.

How long is the battery on an iPad good for before having to recharge ?

That's a good question I'd like to know the answer to. Don't know, it's new. Since I got it as a gift I haven't researched it (or even read the instructions!). Just an early impression...it seems to be lasting longer than my iPhone. But I haven't activated 3G yet.
With my iPhone it varies a lot depending on settings. I think I could get 2 days with the iPhone if I'm careful. It plugs into my power outlet on my RR so I don't usually worry about it.

I've had my iPad for about 6 months now (company issued) and it lasts about 10-12 hours with both wi-fi and 3G turned off (I read a lot of iBooks) and about an hour or two less with either wi-fi or 3G turned on. With BOTH wi-fi AND 3G turned on I can get about 6 hours. This is my experience only and your experience may be different as I usually keep the screen backlight pretty well lit up as nothing bugs me more than a dimly lit screen. Also, I never keep both wi-fi AND 3G on at the same time.

I got a Kindle 2 for Christmas. Awesome device.
I have charged it twice since then, and use it almost daily.
