r1100r 1995,,,6k miles

i just put the miles in a converter, for 12 liters of fuel, distance covered 100 miles im getting 37.88 mpg, (UK imperial) if i put 11 litres in it come back with 41.33 mpg.....so maybe it needs some agustment somwhere,,,,the bike has only done just over 6k miles, would this affect the fule used as it may still be running in, i have read that it takes around 16000 before the engin is run in.....any thoughts....

Some say that it takes well into the 20,000 (miles) to fully break in the BMW boxer engine. I'm agnostic about that.
Your 37 mpg is consistent with what I get in stop and go traffic. On the open road I'm getting about 60 mpg.

well the bike still feels new, it was left stsnding in a show room for years,,,then somone got hold of it in around 2000, he only did a few miles on it from one year to the next....cam chains wer stiff so i got them replaced plus timimg,,,,new belt, plugs, cost me £600,,,,,had all the oils changed and a few other bits,,,,,seems to be running well at the moment but was concerned about the amount of fuel i was using,,,another post said the amount was high,,,well we will just have to see how it goes,,,,but thanks your post has made me feel a bit better,,,,

I just got back from a 480+mile trip to Death Valley. I went from 2,000 feet to over 5,400, to 242 feet below sea level, back to 2,000 feet. Over the 2 days I averaged 47.5 mpg (U.S.) with a high of 52 and a low of 44.
