Traded 07 R1200R last week. New bike should be here around January. Dealer is only getting 2, I don't think they will spend much if any time on the showroom floor.

It is a good choice you and will soon realize you didn't need and won't miss any of the bigger engined bikes. You'll have to get used to never adding oil, even during break-in, its light weight, smooth running and great fuel economy when ridden easy. I see your prior BMW's were quite different from each other and the F800R will continue that tradition. Riding around in Rock Falls, IL in January will be a challenge!

I too was REALLY interested in the F800R until they gave it chain drive, but that's just me. At least you can change the gearing with a 1T or 2T larger front sprocket . . . there is no such option for my bike's belt drive. Do take the time to execute the break-in exactly like the owners manual states, as they really do know best!

Thanks for the update. I have been interested in those since I saw it 2 years ago. (not in person) I see they are on the BMW website now. I will be test riding one of those!

CycleRob, this will be the first time I have ever had a bike trailered anywhere, but do not want to leave it at the shop all winter to get drooled on. The dealer is 125 miles away on flat as a pancake roads. It will kill me but I will wait for better weather, I can ride in some cold temps just not snow and ice. There are curves and hills starting about 30 miles North. Yes I did go for something completely different this time. Know what you mean about changing the gearing, do this on my single speed bicycle and a small change can make a huge difference in effort.

Buckster, may want to get a call into your dealer about a test ride.

My dealer is getting their first and only one now in about a month. I bet it sells before it arrives. It is coming with the kitchen sink, all options and the $pecial paint job. I ordered mine bare bones. For some reason one was selected for them and the other could be ordered. They said the other would have gone into production by the end of November no matter what. Get them while their hot.

Some are reading this and wondering why go from the R12R to this bike. Well it is not the fault of the R12R so much or that the F800R is so great, have never rode any of the new F series. But that has never stopped me in the past. No I blame this decision more on the wife's F650CS, she is 5'1" and has lowered suspension and seat on it. But I always thought if it had more power and were taller it would be the perfect all around bike.

I think the F800R is going to get me closer to what I am looking for. In 1975 I rode all over on a Kawasaki KS125, life was simple then.

I am agreed with you that life was more simple in 1975. I got my new 1975 Honda 250 Elsinore and rode zigzag across US of A about six months, to include Canada. After I got back to southern California (26,000 miles later), I let the bank repossess the bike and join the US Army. Young and Dump!!

Life was more simple.

New review in the current MCN (Motorcycle Consumer News) of the F800R. The guy doing the review also owns a F650GS twin like mine, and made the observation that the GS bike is the better sport tourer than the F800R. Interesting article.

The dealer at BMW of Atlanta had a couple when I stopped in last week. They appear very small beside the F650GS and the F800GS right beside it on the floor.

Those folks at Motorcycle Consumer News must be a bunch of retards. Don't they know neither one of these bikes are sport touring machines. One is an Enduro that sees 99.9% of its life on the street and the other a simple naked bike that gets you to work with decent gas mileage.

The F800R is shorter than 650/800 GS. I can throw my leg over this bike , not lift up and step through, and get both feet flat on the ground with knees bent and weight on my heels. I am 5'9" with a 31.5" inseam and this bike feels better than any BMW I have sat on in the past 23years.

Those retards at at MCN gave 4 pages to the F800R review... and liked it, a lot.

True, but what they said was the F650GS is better at the sport touring activity than the F800R. The guy who wrote this owns the F650GS and rode the F800R for some time, I imagine, to review it, so I'd say his educated opinion means a lot to the reader trying to decide which of these 2 bikes to buy. And I doubt they would have given him a driver's license if his IQ was down there in the "mentally retarded" area.

Sorry...I'm just addicted to acceleration.

Can't speak for the FZ6....I test rode the Street Triple and the F800R and the close ratio transmission on the S.T. made for some very fast accelleration. I googled F800R and there were some actual articles comparing the two. The S.T. was faster and more hooligan like and the F800R is more laid back. I like both bikes a lot, but with the better gearing (IMO) and better gas mileage on the F800R, that might be my next ride.

I have owned the F800S Street Triple R1200R F800R. And back to the R1200R in that order and the Street Triple is probably quicker than the F800R but not by much, it is a revvy engine and not as relaxed to ride as the F800 and also not as economic as the F800. Like the F800R the Street Triple is a holigan bike
