Slow Maneuvering Tips

Post by macx »

This should be a big help to anyone trying to take the ridiculous
riding skills test as given in many states, MO being one of them.
I can't ever see anyone with anything close to a full sized road
bike ever having to maneuver that slowly in the real world.

However, I stumbled across this last nite while researching some
other things. With practice, this method should help.

Look for "Slow Riding" under the Articles section.

Umm - I can't see a link???

FWIW, I use slow riding skills every day, I do at least 2 tight u-turns daily, (to turn into or out of my parking spot at work, and to turn the bike around to get into my garage), and I also do a fair bit of slow speed filtering on the way to work.
Slow-speed skills are invaluable. :)

Well, shucks!

I used to be forgetful, now at my advanced age I'm downright senile!
Would have sworn I had copied it onto the post.

This falls under my "Don't use it and loose it" catagory. Even with saddle bags, topcase, and GF on the back I take my R1200R just about everywhere I took my CL175 when I was 14. I'm usually riding over curbs and through tight spots to get an optimal parking spot up close and in the shade.

Take an Experienced Riders Course (ERC) this is all basic maneuvering 101. All riders should eventually become proficient in tight maneuvering, which like some are finding out, its being required more and more to get your MC license. What it takes to pass the state MC license test is only a fraction of what you need to know, and most people stop learning (or caring) once they pass the state test. It is those people that stopped learning after getting their license, that provide the crash statistics and bad PR ...

That's a sweet lookin Widowmaker! I just bought myself a new toy of the four wheeler type, so if I bring another two wheeler home I'm liable to be sleeping with them. But just for kicks... What would you sell it for?

If you pick it up I'd sell it for 7,500. A very good price for this bike.

That doesn't sound bad. I saw one go on ebay a few years ago, BRAND NEW with zero miles on it for $15,000.
