iTunes Replacement

I am looking for a program to use with my Ipod Classic that will replace ITunes. I have some issues with ITunes that I can’t seem to resolve.
I had been using RedChair Software's Anapod with my older Ipod but it won't work with this newer model.
Does anyone know of an alternate?
I tried Song Bird but I can't get it to "see" my Ipod.

Seems that once the iPod Gremlins get a foothold they are very hard to dislodge.

I hate itunes, with a passion. But three of our kids, and one wife, have ipods, so I am stuck with it.

The Gremlins haven't found me yet so I still love it.

I listen to audio books on my Ipod and many of them are over 10 discs long. When I make a playlist containing the audiobook iTunes wants to sort my books discs like 01, 10,11, 12, 02,03 and so forth. Maybe there is something I am doing wrong.

Can you manually rename the files, such as by putting an "A" in front of the first one you want to hear, "B" in front of the second, and so on?
