I believe some on this forum have installed this. Does this significantly improve performance without additional items like a better exhaust? I live in Colorado at 6500' and my riding ranges between 4000' and 11000' so I'm thinking more air would be a good thing. Seems rather pricey at $359 however.

Not sure if anyone here has taken advantage of San Jose's performance know-how.

Hopefully we'll hear from someone who installed the intake.

First things first, the R259 model is fitted with a fairly rudimentary Motronic 2.4 ECU. Lacking a MAP sensor, doesn't allow mixture enrichent to compensate for the altitude in your part of the country. There is limited compensation, via the air temperature sensor located on the top of the air cleaner enclosure. (enrichens the mixture slightly as the ambient temperature decreases)

Regarding San Jose's Powerflow kit, I'll offer my oppinion, based on personal experience. Power, in a simplistic way, is a combination of air and fuel, more air, more fuel, more power. In this case we have a K&N type (oil bath) filter that has been proven to flow slightly better than the OEM at the expense of reduced filtering efficiency. Likewise we also have a larger throat intake horn, tests have demnstrated that both the horn and the air filter will provide a slight HP advantage in the upper ranges of the rpm band, not where the typical owner will do most of it's riding. Ahhh, the $359 cost does provide an increased intake growl......

Without ever having used one...350 bucks is a waste. You'll lose a bit of oompf on the low end and midrange, which is where the bike has most of its power, and you'll end up letting a bunch more dirt/dust/small abrasive things into your engine with the higher flowing yet ineffective air filter. I understand wanting more air, but the bike runs plenty lean enough. Nothing "significantly increases performance" without significantly emptying your wallet. But, for 350 bucks, it'd better have a more aggressive intake growl...whatever that is.

San Jose used to charge $500 for the kit, if it's the same one I'm thinking of. One of our former members installed the induction kit, the chip, and an aftermarket exhaust. He said there's no real power boost and the advantage of the system occurrs at the top end. You'll be able to run 130 rather than 124. Actually $359 doesn't sound so bad when you consider many of us have those $1000 Staintune exhaust systems. Just a matter of priorities and cash flow.

The K&N air filter alone will increase the intake growl quite a bit.
