new starter drive versus old starter drive

many long months without my bike and I'm finally getting to fixing it
rebuilding the starter to replace the starter drive - got a new one from euromotorelectrics
the old and new are different on the gear end but the drive fits on the shaft/splines and the gear itself is the same teeth and all so hopefully this is an upgraded version - of course I'll check with euromotorelectrics on Monday.

Looks better than the original!
The difference is probably down to machining costs. Rather than turn a couple of different diameters
on the blank shaft it looks like they've just cut the gear straight to the blank.
Not so fancy but should work OK so long as it's been hardened correctly :)

Not to worry! If you now purchase a complete OEM unit by Valeo (as I did) the gear is the same as your replacement. Works fine for me.

the folks at euromotorelectrics got back to me quickly and yes, its an upgraded starter drive and, yes, as the previous poster indicated, it is indeed the one you'd get on a new valeo replacement starter so its all good.
