Good day all: I am all over the place trying to decide on a windsheild. I want to keep a sport look for now so, if any of you could send or post pictures of the various brands I would appreciate it.

Just a suggestion. Spend a tiny bit of time searching the forum and reading old posts on windshields. If there was a most commonly discussed item for the R12R - windshields would be tops, probably followed by seats.

There are MANY MANY photos/discussions/theoretical/philosophical postings on windshields here. You almost can't open a thread without one popping up..

Wow, that's a lot of money for a little piece of plastic. To me that doesn't look like it would generate smooth airflow. Who's the guinea pig gonna be? Dderrig? Come on man, you know you want one...

Wow - that is some major $$$ (or pounds or euros..)

What's interesting is it appears to address the airflow up the fork tube cutouts. Thinking about it - it might not be that hard to add something like that to standard shields, somehow.. have to go stare at the bike for a while..

BUTT FUGLY! I'm all about function but that would never be fitted to my R, just my opion. And for that kind of slaw I acn't even to think about it.

Yep, butt ugly is right on the money.

Here is the BMW Sport Screen painted black. Love the look and like the screen even more. Did a 400 mile day yesterday to the Slimey Crud ride and that screen works just fine.

Thanks Gezer!! I just need a little protection when I wear the half helmet "warm weather". I heard from the local dealer here in Iowa the Slimy Crud is a blast! Hopefully next year. I do like the looks of that small windsheild.

Thank you. As for that screen offering protection when you wear a 1/2 helmet, it is not going to give you much face protection. I'm 5' 7" on a good day and the wind blast from this screen hits me right in the chest, which I happen to like. It helps hold me up and I can actually make use of the vents in my jackets as well as in my new Shoei, which I primarily bought for this bike ( vents well and is pretty quiet ). You should do a search under screens to get as much info as possible, or you might end up like Don, with about 2 zillion screens ! If your dealer is Gina, she and her husband usually show up for the Crud ride. This year was about the largest I have seen it and I never ran across either of them.

Gezer, I've been contemplating painting my screen black too. Would it be possible for you to post a few more photos from different angles? And, do you have any lessons learned from the painting exercise? Did you scuff up the shield first, apply a primer, what paint did you use, etc.? Thanks,

Whoa - I didn't even recognize this as a BMW sport screen at first - and i have one. I thought it was a two-tone with tinted top half at first, but now i see it is just the angle and reflection. I might actually consider doing this mod!

A friend has a black screen on a Triumph Bonneville and it looks really nice:

I haven't painted mine - but auto parts stores carry spray paints specifically made for use on plastics (like lights on bling-cars). Cleaning the plastic first is really vital, and I'd suggest a good soaking in Dawn Dishwashing detergent (it will strip off any oil and waxes..) then rinse until the water doesn't bead up on the plastic - you want it to sheet off..

Krylon Fusion for Plastics, the no prep, superbond paint. Just clean with thinner or lacquer, per directions. No sanding or priming.
