R1100R catalytic converter

Post by coxlaw »

I have the stock catalytic converter on my 1998 R1100R and it has turned brownish and unsightly. I'm not sure whether to replace it (remove it altogether) or clean it? what's the best to replace with or if I merely clean it how would I remove the brownish color? steel wool, chrome cleaner, sandpaper? any ideas are welcome.

This is not something specific for the cat but for stainless steel when heated (always turns brownish). You will have the same effect on your mufflers. To get your chrome polish back there are only 2 solutions: either polish with electric tools or steeping with corrosive fluid used in the welding industry. However the brownish color will always come back ...

I suggest you just keep it as it is.
