I just finished the 25 mile commute to work on my new Comfort Saddle. For those of you who have been suffering with the standard bench seat, the Comfort Saddle will ease your pain. Twenty five miles isn't much of a road test, but I could feel the difference the first mile.

Here are my observations in comparing the two seats:

Standard Bench Seat (800mm) - The seat is convex shaped, with an arch at the highest point in the center of the seat. This did not allow my bottom to rest comfortably on the seat. The unique shape of this seat caused a "wedgie" between the open portion of my pelvis. If you can't visualize this or don't have an anatomy class skeleton available, conduct this experiment. While seated in a comfortable chair, take your hand and slide it between your legs to a point about 3-4 inches toward your backside. Now press upwards with your hand and you will feel the spot where the standard bench seat supports you. Sorry, if this is too graphic for the less sensitive readers.

Comfort Saddle (Low -800mm) - Saddle is an appropriate name for this seat because that is what it feels like when seated on it. My bottom rests on the seat on the muscles of the glutteus maximus and the upper thighs. The upswept portion leading to the pillion seat makes contact with the top portion of my butt. The saddle has a neutral seating position for me. That is, it does not force me either forward or back. The feeling I get is that the seat is flat, as if one is seated on a chair.

If you want to avoid the "wedgie mit 2x4," which is what the standard seat felt like to me, buy the Comfort Saddle. It is the best $554 I have spent on my new R1200R.

+1 On the Comfort saddle. Mine came with the bike as part of the Touring Package. It's as comfortable as it needs to be.

Great post - comfort saddle was coming before I read this, now I am really looking forward to receiving it!

In the mean time I've been riding with bicycle shorts on under my pants. God this seat is terrible.

Yes, it comes in tall. I have the low on my bike now and find it a big improvement. No pict's yet.

Fitted Comfort Seat last Friday and have travelled 300 miles since . 2 trips of over 200 miles . This is a fantastic improvement. Bonus is that the pillion does not slide a round. Bob W

I have done a long ride (300km) the other day and my butt was absolutely fine. I could have gone on forever.

Now that's the best-looking saddle of the lot. Is it leather, pleather, or what? In any case I think there's one in my future. My tuchis is killing me after an hour.

Mine is nice quality plastic. The staples appear to be stainless.

It would be nice if the fine folks at BMW would read these posts, and make the 'comfort' seat the standard seat, and call the current standard seat something like 'masochist seat - only available in Deutchland'.

It would save us a lot of bother.

BMW does not say, but mine smells and feels like leather.

Morning:

Does anyone have a picture of the Low Comfort Seat as I am a bit 'vertically challenged' and this may mitigate my tip-toeing.
