my bike died on me today
i was riding to work on the interstate. at about 80MPH suddenly i got a lite surge. then it go progressively wosrse and was bucking at the same time the temp, fuel gage & gear indicator were flashing in and out while the back light stayed lit and the tach. was fluttering up and down i am thinking it is the ecm/motronics. any advice? and how would i test the ecm?

What you describe is not the motronic but most probably a dead hall sensor. A description how to test and replace can be found here http://users.rcn.com/dehager/service/oi ... ensors.pdf

ok hes checks out
and i just replaced it 9 mo. ago. this is going to drive me nuts. so i get everything back together and now it wont turn over and no response from the fuel pump also the RID is staying blank except for the clock. the battery is good and charged i am not worried about that. so i went to run the diagnostic on the motronic and nothing. so i am still leaning toward an issue with the motronic .

Re: 96 r1100rt motronics
Same thing happened to me today... I was stranded on the side of the road for a bit.
Check all the relays under the seat. Pull them out and put them back in tight. One of mine had worked its way loose. I popped it back in and it started right up.

The motronic is very seldom to go south ... In most cases it is the hall sensor. If the RID stays blank sound like an electric problem. Could be a relay, could be a fuse, could be some kind of short circuit in the front of the bike (remember the common zip-locks which are too tight and can cause wires to break).
Your dealer will be able to check the fault memory and run some diagnostics.
