Afternoon:

I was just riding and cleaning/detailing my 2007-purchased Spring 2008 R1200R and noticed stress cracks near the mounting holes for the short Sport Screen. Anyone else have/seen this issue???

I assume that this will be covered under the warranty???

1st, try to make it their problem, since it is relatively new.

2nd, if they won't replace the screen, or if it ever happens on a non-warantee screen, simply drill the end of each crack with the skinniest drill bit you have. I have done this for years on several different screens, and it stops the cracks cold. My current Cal-Sci has several tiny drill holes in it, and they pose no problem.

You must be an AME, it's called stop drilling. Been used for decades.

I wonder if this was caused by over tightening the screws for the windscreen? And people laugh at me when I ask for torque specs on almost everything. Anyway, I agree with the above posts. Did you install it yourself, or was it already on the bike when you purchased it? If it was, then I would definitely try place the blame, rightfully so.

I pointed out these cracks on a new R12 on the dealer showroom floor last year. The sales guy said he would have to get it changed. I would say the problem is caused by stress on the shield caused by over torque. This bike had never been off the show room floor.

Had exactly the same problem. My bike was approx. 18 months old.
The screen was changed under warranty without any argument.

If you can't get it replaced for free try a little dot of clear fingernail polish at the end of the crack. It will keep if from spreading. It works on car windshields too. I've done it.
