Just look at the two front or two rear cylinders in an oppoed fashion and you have the workings of the Boxer engine. Neat animation.

http://auto.howstuffworks.com/engine2.htm Figure 4 on this page is an animation of opposed inline pistons -like the boxer design. The boxer, of course, has only 1 set of opposed pistons as opposed to the 2 sets in fig 4.
