Let me tell you that New American Frenchy's like me and myself
will never complain about the use of "Frogs" nickname !
Simply because according to some already quite old scientific theories Frogs in the chain of evolution are one of the oldest animal being on earth... certainly due to the fact that most of their breathing is processed & filtered trough their skin all over their body which allowed them to face all kind of climatic change all along the ages.... as French also do...moralistically emancipated & unrepressed ! they breath the world from their skin ! and like the frogs will last forever !
Frogs are also extremely supporting to us Socialist Frenchies ! when in the woods we often improvise bacchanal orgies with our girlfriend from all over the world... Frogs are socialist too ! they don't know puritan and hypocritical reaganian neo-conservativeness because they are always ready to
SING SING SING for free-minded peoples !
This being said.... in 2010 splitting lane in France is a problematic issue because of the lack of space in city's compare to USA and with the skyrocketing increase of gas the amount of riders & alternative transportation modes since the past 10 years has unbelievably exploded....Joggers, Skateboarders, rollers, razors riders, Bicycle riders, scooter riders, motorcycle riders....are all melted in between cars at red light and sometimes when everything move the whole thing became a coffee ....grinder.... of peoples ! (Only last year France had 800 fatal riders crash)
This being said I would not be surprise that the current "nouveau riche" conservative Sarkozy government which is pretty similar to Italian Silvio Berlusconi or G.W Bush administration had real sincere plans for safety
well maybe...
but also probably to raise public money with tickets and in troubled economic period to boost up Cars manufacturers sales simply because French peoples in many city's don't even buy cars anymore. Two wheel transportations being since decades already the fastest and cheapest way to browse the city along with simple plain public transportations...
If this law is being voted it will really be a "breakthrough", I really don't know how will do thousands of bike messengers and lawyers that are professionally almost forced to use two wheel to be on time.
French motorcycle riders are since a long time well organized & political... much less the scooter riders and small CC's but Cycling peoples are also legions and ready "to fight" for there rights at any moment ! and STRIKE is a RIGHT ! its legal solidarity...
In the 70's/80's motorcycle riders fought a lot in the streets & offices with the government in order to change the design standards of the metallic barriers that were place in the middle of all freeways...which almost systematically decapitated riders even in case of minor crash sometimes. I am not sure but I think they obtained those design changes a while ago already.
Now ! back here USA west coast !
Just for the anecdote since 8yrs I am living here and ride everyday in Los Angeles for the exact same reasons that lawyers or messengers do in Paris...
For the very first time last month ! I saw lightning signs on the freeways saying this beautiful simple message
"SHARE THE ROAD LOOK TWICE FOR MOTORCYCLIST"
and I heard on the news that cops were cracking down LA drivers on this issue.
I am Still surprised !
of such official consideration for minority's in US !
I am therefore willing to interpret it as a sign of
SOCIAL PROGRESS in AMERICA !
