I've done numerous searches on this topic because I know I've seen something on it before. I've come up empty. Can someone either tell/show me where the adjustment is made or post the link(s) to an earlier post? I've even gone to microfiche and can't find anything.

I've just put on the F800ST bars with 1" risers and the turn signal switch hits the tank. I think I would like to keep the bars as is and give up some steering lock.

The lock is fixed - no adjustment available. There is a vendor somewhere (Twisted Throttle or Wunderlich I think) who sells steering-lock-protector-goobers, a seperate bolted on set of steering lock lugs for the steering head that are supposed to protect the steering lock nub on the steering head from breaking if you do a somersault with the bike. I rather suspect these may do what you want (actually I think they do what you're asking for even if you don't want them to..)

I have the Wunderlich steering lock protectors on my R1200R. Wunderlich claims that they do not restrict the range of motion (I did not notice any difference). These mount via the fork bridge mounting holes and position a hard rubber block alongside the fork fixed tube so that at full left and right, the blocks contact the telelever, thus restricting further movement. I would think you could attach hard rubber glazing blocks/spacers to either the telelever or fork tube and get the results you are looking for.

Have you tried rotating the bars and or switches ? I had to do that on mine when I put the bar backs on. Now the switch just barely clears.

Upon further review...

I don't think the Wunderlich stop concept would do what I want. Were the bike to tip over, the Wunderlich thingy would work on the lower portion of the fork but I'm afraid that the load on the handlebar would twist the forks enough that the switch would dent the tank.

So my next question is "Where is the steering stop?" My best judgment is that it is the piece of metal in front of the steering stem just below the upper triple clamp. If that is it, my idea is to mount a spacer on it. That would keep the triple clamp from rotating enough for the switch to hit the tank. If the stop is not that piece of metal, what IS the stop?

BTW, the post I remember seeing showed that the poster had drilled and tapped the face of the stop and installed a bolt with a cushioned head. Anyone else see that?
