I don't know about you folks, but I love looking at the recent magazine racks and seeing a BMW on the cover of nearly every sport bike mag.

The S1000RR is kicking ass and taking names! Look for a strong showing in World Superbike this year.

Now I'd love to see some involvement in MotoGP - maybe some big wheels in Munich could offer Rossi a new ride...

That would be SOOOOO cool!

MotoGP is a whole other ballgame. I think BMW is being pretty smart here, WSBK is a 'stock' series, so it represents something I can buy. MotoGP is like F1, in that bikes are 100% custom made. Entertaining and 'state of the art', but I wouldn't think of it outside of that.

Well, I used to have that mindset too. I refused to watch MotoGP because the bikes were, as Valentino puts it, "from outer space". I wanted to watch stuff I could go buy, so I watched World Superbike.

But the more I paid attention, the more GP technology I started to see trickling down to the showroom floor (after the WSBK guys got it, of course).

Examples:

- Remote reservoir shocks (oldie but a goodie)

- Slipper clutches

- steering dampeners

- hydraulic clutches

- traction control

- 2CT tires - that was freakin' MAGIC a few years ago!

- wave rotors

- radial mount brakes

etc...

Eventually, it's not so much custom, handbuilt, exclusive top-secret stuff.

You just get to see it before anybody else if you watch MotoGP.

And, watching anything else is now like watching little league. It can be fun, but not as much fun as the "big show".

Very few AMA or WSBK riders can compete at that level. They truly are the best of the best.
