Batteries and Huggers

Just a thought--have bikes that experienced sudden battery death had huggers installed? Without a hugger, the battery is exposed to whatever the rear wheel throws at it. Just wondering.

I wouldn't wonder about that - but seeing as 'their is no such thing as a stupid question'. (sorry but that's the way I remember the quote)
I've had a hugger on almost from day one and my battery just dropped dead about one year after I bought (new)the bike. It seems like the battery is the biggest fault this bike had, and a few (very few) antenna rings.

I don't think it has anything to do with it, but, can see where you are coming from.
I think the problem is that the battery is too small.
Again with that said, some guys are getting 3 years out of the battery, and others like me only 1 year. I suppose it makes for a conversation topic.

You guys are scaring me. My 2007 has a mfg date of Sep 2006. I'm still on the stock battery without even a hint of trouble. While the if not broken don't fix comes to mind but am I pushing the envelope! Btw no hugger here.

You got one of the good September batteries. Mine was built 10/06 - and still on the original battery. I don't sweat it. If it craps out - it gets replaced.

I would say that the battery has its work cut out for it. My 2002 R1150R had a larger battery and the engine was smaller in size(not by much). But I think the challenge is that the compression ratio of the 1200 is a whopping 12:1 and the 1150 was only a 10:1 ratio. At least the battery in the 1200 is WAY easier to change . The 1150 battery was under the gas tank and required the removal of 13 different fasteners just to get at it, a real PITA but it did last 4 years. I did notice that our bikes have another fastener hole above the hole were the battery hold down is secured, Has anyone researched if a larger battery will fit??
