Problem installing Kisan headlight modulator

I bought a P115w modulator from Kisan, which is the unit described in Kisan's application chart as the one to fit the r1150r. Problem is that when assembled, the headlight will not fit in the metal housing. I can't quite get the modulator flush with the headlight bulb such that about 1/16 of an inch of the lightbulb's blades are showing. By comparison, when I try to put the assembly back together, the lens assembly is about 5/16 from the housing. So even if I could eliminate the 1/16 (and I have tried and tried) I still can't make up all the space I need.
Maybe they sent me the wrong modulator, otherwise I don't know how you guys who have installed one of these managed to do it. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

You don;t say what year your R1150R is.
The 115W is for 00-03 bikes.
For 04 and later R1150R and Rockster, use the 115W-S, per the Kisantech Aplications sheet....
https://www.kisantech.com/brochures/App-Print-1.pdf
I think "S" stands for "short" as in not too long for the headlight shell.

Sorry, my bike is a 2002 R1150R. The application chart says my bike should use the P115W, which is what I ordered and supposedly what I have. If the 115-S is thinner, then that may be my ticket. I wonder though if they can provide the same technology in a smaller package why they wouldn't simply eliminate the thicker product in the first place.
Anyway I hope you are right. I had a car pull out in front of me yesterday, and I am anxious to increase my visibility.
Thanks for the response.

Hmmm. Maybe the S stands for something else.
I noted in another post today about kisan's running lights that I also run my bike with a hotter (80/110W) bulb, which is yellow, and using an Eastern Beaver light harness and PIAA 1100x driving lights which are constantly on, I just aim them a little lower and to the right to avoid blinding oncoming traffic. I've done the same kind of mods in the back as well. I don't want to ever hear the words "I didn't see him" while laying on my back.

I use the Signal Dynamics Diamond Star headlight modulator, which is cheaper than the Kisan, and has more functions, but installs in the wiring harness rather than the headlamp shell...

Interesting idea about the yellow bulb. I am also going with the Eastern Beaver relay and will have to consider doing what you did. I am also debating the 1100x or Trailtech's SM-16 HID's, and serious considering yellow led's from Skeen Design (

Oncoming traffic, beware!!

Thanks for this. I have a call into Kisan. I was really pleased with their signalminder (highly recommended!), and their headlight modulator does exactly what I want it to do. I don't understand though why others have installed it without a problem
So in about 16 hours expect a comment about Kisan's customer service! will it be

I heard from Kisan and bimrluvr is right, the P-115-S apparently is my answer. Unlike the P115 which is sandwiched between the bulb and the headlight plug, the P115-S apparently sits off to the side when installed. Here is a picture of the P115-S for those intereted.

Anyway, problem solved (I think).
Thanks for your help!

FWIW
Been running one of these on all my motorcycles (including R1150R) for 3+ years.
Works well, and it fits inside the headlight housing.

I've had reliability problems with Kissan's stuff.

Not to be a wet blanket here, but some drivers won't see you no matter what lights you are running. Hopefully, you ride accordingly.

I was just about to order one of these as well. So for an '04 R1150R, should I order the P115W or the P115W-S? When I enter a 2004 R1150R into Kisan's application form, it lists the P115W as the correct part, but also states:
"the year you have entered doesn't correspond with the make and model."
So I'm not sure if I should trust the chart. Perhaps I'll just call them to see what they recommend.

I have yet to receive the P115W-S in place of the P115W so I don't know what the differences are other than what is shown in the pictures. I will post my thoughts once I receive and install the replacement.
If functionally there are no differences, I don't understand why Kisan would even offer the P115W. I guess the P115W is a "cleaner" design in that it just sandwiches in between the power plug and the light bulb, where the S sits off to the side in some way. Maybe some applications have space just for one option and not the other.
Anyway, that is a long way of saying that I can't see where for R1150R owners the P115W-S isn't always the way to go, but I will know more wants I have it and have installed it.

Well I received the P115W-S as a replacement to the P115W that Kisan's application chart says is the correct part. The P115W-S is, as the picture suggests, differs from the P115W in that it has a short two inch wire that allows the male part to be offset from the bulb. I had already wired the sensor though the back of the headlight assembly, so installing the P115W-S took about 2 minutes. Works exactly as advertised.
I can't say whether the P115W will never work on any R1150R but it sure didn't work on mine (MY2002). It would also appear that the P115W-S is more flexible than the P115W, such that the "W-S" should work wherever the "W" will, but not the other way around.

I have one in my 2003 and it works fine. I don't recall which model I got. However, I had the same issue of the plug not fitting flush. I called Kisan and it's not a problem?! I've used it 2 seasons and it truely hasn't been a problem. I do NOT recommend installing sensor in the top of the headlight . . . leaks in the rain! I've gotten a good headlight bucket and will reroute out the back and will probably secure near the front brake lever. I will cover the sensor itself with heat-shrink tube to protect it from the elements. In the mean time I've covered the sensor with clear pkging tape.

No need to drill a hole in the headlight housing. You can run the sensor through the rubber gasket in the back of the headlight. I then ziptied the sensor head to the clutch cable near the head tube (or whatever you call it on a motorcycle) so that it was pointing up. It's waterproof. No need to do more.

I have an 02 with a K/tech modulator and it was a push on install and I had no problems putting it in or through the subsequent years....
