That's why I try to stay out of Wal_Mart.

That's just one of the reasons I don't go to Walmart, too.

Parenting skills are noticeably lacking in Walmart.

I generally avoid Wal-Mart becasue people do tend to get on my nerves...but there is a time and reason for everything...

The time is 4:00 AM. This assures me no annoying poeple and an empty parking lot.
The reason is 5 quarts of Castrol GTX 20/50 for $12.50.

A 60something year old slapping a stranger's child? A real good reason for a concealed carry permit.

C'mon you guys and gals, that is outrageous behavior for a grown man....slapping a child.....look at his mug all he had to fo was look at the child.....and hope that the parent had some diapers handy.

While it makes for a fun mental image to silence a kid, one simply does not do that, after all, what does a toddler know except that which he/she has been taught.

I have little by way of ethical problems with smacking the parent, however

Hey you guys got it all bass akwards. If you will kindly reread my post, I stated this is the reason I stay out of WalMart. You assumed I sympathized with the guy. When in actuality I stay out of WalMart so guys like that won't come up and slap the crap out of ME...'Cause I go in there to just have a good cry now and then, as I walk the aisles and see all that good "stuff" they have on the shelves.

Many find WalMart a profoundly moving and singular experience. It is tantamount to hearing angels sing. It is a child's wish come true. A mother's devotion. In WalMart there are colors, beautiful colors, that even God cannot name. There are sounds never heard or, once heard, not to be believed. And sights that beckons the beholder to ask the meaning of life.

As much as I dislike Wal-Mart, I find myself in it often. My three year old usually is with me because he is three, and he does not have a choice. His older siblings know better, and find excuses to stay home, away from the place. I imagine most toddlers are in the same situation -- don't want to be there, but can't do much about it except ... scream!

However, if someone did that to my kid, I would hit him. Also, my kid is jedi, and the force is with him, so watch out.

After re-reading... Grandpa was definitely a troll. He had terrible judgement, and a completely unacceptable response.

(I agree with Ritchard) Grandpa should have smacked the Mom.

And if Bob's kid was in the store, none of this would have happened. A Jedi would have shut that kid up from the across the store with no physical contact.
