ok, so I need a seat or?

a place to keep the boys when I ride....

~4 Weeks a go , I bought a 2002 r1150r. I have added some barbacks to help with the reach issues I had. I traded the Corbin seat that was on it to help with reach. I am now using a stock low seat. I am now flat footed with a little flex at the new.. So far so good.

I added an Alsaska seat pad, better. I am very happy with the bike overall. Except for one thing, and its a real issue for me.. Whe I ride now my um, boys, are miserable.  I have researched the web for hours. There has to be a seat available out there for less than $500.00.. I just can see spending that much for a seat... I have read about airhawk pad and others, all seem like they would be add ons that would increase seat height.. The issue isn't that my butt gets sore, it's the boys... I hope this thread doesn't offend anyone, I am just looking for some help... ( At least I didn't say my nuts are killing me) -

I have the low seat as I said above, is there a standard seat and then a high seat? Or are there just a low and a high?

Also, when riding 2 up , the issue is worse...

Looking for ideas/help or someone with a seat for sale...

...and yes, I have used the search funtion and read several threads here.

I need a seat that will not increase my reach from the ground or to the bars...

Moderators, if this is improper please remove the thread.

Have you tried different underwear?

Seriously, if you're wearing boxers on your Boxer, I can understand your, uhm, predicament. Try switching to something snugger, like bicycle shorts, or compression shorts, like those offered by UnderArmour.

I have the same bike and switched to a Rick Mayer seat. I'm pleased with it. He offers 50% discounts on some seats when his business gets slow, so you might find a good price from him as I did.

The Airhawk, properly inflated, doesn't really add to the height. It just fills in the gaps between yer bones and the seat, spreads out the pressure. :?

To answer your question, I believe that there is a *standard* seat, in addition to the low and high ones and they seem to show up on ebay fairly often. I think that many swap out the standard height for either the taller or shorter ones.

Try a stack of washers under the front seat mounting bracket. I found this levelled the seat and stopped me sliding forward out of my comfort zone.

no just the standard and "tall" is what I remember being the two options when I bought mine in '02.

31.3 inches and 32.5 inches or something like that. not a huge difference but enough to make me purchase the tall, it really was better for my 6'3" inch frame.

I have a Rick Mayer as well. Love it, really. It is over 35 inches from seat to the ground. But he makes them custom according to your inseam and weight, so....ask him.

Thanks guys.

I am 5'10" 200 lbs. ~30"inseam.. (Closer to 29" ) .

I tried the washers under the front seat mount today, that seemed to help some. I used 5 washers per side under the bracket with longer screws...raised the bracket height ~1/2". Now if I could lower the rear of the seat.. Was thinking about shaving off the rubber rear seat square mounts/supports, but didn't want op wreck em.

I am going to order some riding underware too, for longer rides..

I spoke with Rocky from Bill Mayers and got an idea of what he could do. I will also speak to Rick Mayer this week... The Day Long Comfort seat appears to be to tall...

Will also try seeing if my local dealer has a tall seat ... maybe I'll try that.

Last, I spoke to an upholstry shop that has done some bike seats for the BMW dealer in NH...(max's BMW).

We'll see.. For now I will kep my rides short...

Thanks all and keep any other suggestions coming.

For me, underwear makes a big difference. I am partial to Wickers. They have a few different styles. I like the boxer briefs but these look like just the ticket

Ding! Ding! We have a winner. Look, I've had the tall seat, the short seat, and the air hawk. Actually the low seat is the most comfortable because it has the widest seating area. It doesn't matter. The problem is that all the seats have a forward slope, and when you put the airhawk on it, it's still sloped; you'll get better support, but you wont solve the real problem. And of course your pants stick to the seat, and you slide forward in them, and you get crushed. A 1" stack of washer under the front mounts will level the seat and make a HUGE difference. But, it will add height to the seat and makes the gap between the front of the seat and the tank larger... small price to pay for comfort, in my book.

Practically all seats on sport and standard bikes are sloped forward, some more than others. Why? I have no idea. Is it to prevent you from sliding back when you hit the throttle? What do we spend more time doing, cruising or accelerating like banchies? Shoot all the seat designers and get a new breed in there...

Problem is the same with the passanger seat. It slopes forward. Unfortunately the solution for the back seat is not as easy as a stack of washer. The only way is to get it flat (or actually slightly dished) and reupholster.

I have a Sargent on my current bike, installed by previous owner, and guess what... IT STILL HAS A FORWARD SLOPE... idots...

Oh, and I've tried all sort of underwear... some are better than others, but none resolved the problem... Seamless ones are best but they cost an arm and a leg...

Depends on where and how you ride, I guess. :)

My Sargent seat does remove a fair bit of the slope, though. It's fairly flat from front to back and wider than the original low/standard seat. It makes it a little harder to put your feet down, but I can still stand up over the bike with my 33" inseam.

I am the same inseam as you. I found the stock seat more comfortable. If you want more leg reach try thick soled boots however as you gain confidence in the bike you will probably dispense with the boots.
