What seat do you have on your bike and how does it rate for comfort and looks? I have an 02 R with the BMW tall seat and I can't ride for much more than an hour before I have to stop. And after about 200 miles I don't want to ride anymore.I also have a sheepskin cover that made it a little bit better.

My fat can loves Sargent.

Stock seat = 150 miles.

Sargent = 680 miles.

My skinny bum loves the corbin. Each of us has different rear ends and preferences as to seat density.so you should try out as many as you can. I tried Sargent, Russel, both BMW and I settled on the Corbin. One size or type does not fit all.

I quickly realized that the stock seat would have to be replaced. Luckily, a fellow board member had purchased a new seat and also had a Bill Mayer seat extra that he had also tried. He sold me his Bill Mayer and I haven't looked back. What a difference in comfort!

I recently acquired a Sargent seat used from a board member. I did it for the extra height to allow my aching knees not to bend so much. I found my rear end could tolerate the stock seat much longer than my knees could. It has worked very well so far, greatly increasing my ability to ride without pain. My butt has appreciated the extra support also, allowing me to truly ride out a tank without stopping!

I tried a tall BMW seat from a friend and discovered that while it helped my knees, it was terrible on my butt. Too narrow!

Sargent, Mayer, or Russell are all good ones, the last two custom jobs unless you get a used one. Corbin is liked by some but the buzz is that the fit and finish is not up to the others. My Sargent looks way better than the stocker!

How were you able to try out so many seats?

I kept trying the different seats by buying them on different lists and Ebay. After trying them on longish rides over 250 miles I'd keep the better and sell the lesser. Finally I kept the Corbin. My butt knows best, I can ride eight hours and not feel the least bit sore. BTW I also tried the Mayer way too soft but as I stated I have a skinny Butt.

How about adding a Bead Rider? Has anyone experienced a marked improvement in comfort after installing one of these?

Some seat info:

My un-skinny-American-cheeseburger-fed butt prefers the Sargent as best available seat option. Mrs. Sweatmark's shapely derrier prefers a custom seat created using her Roadster's original seat base... and most of the time she uses her Airhawk.

I have a Seargent and love it. The first few times I rode more than a hour or so, my butt would hurt. I bought the sheepskin and that helped some. Now I ride hours at a time with no discomfort. I don't even use the sheepskin anymore.

BTW a friend who has a Corbin on his Kawi- hates it. He has a Russell Daylong on his Yami and loves that. Everyone will have varying opinions but the R stock seat seems to be not very comfortable.

Thanks guy's, Its kind of hard to spend 4 or 5 hundred bucks to find out I don't like a seat.I'll do a little more shopping before I pick a seat.

One of the best accessories that I bought for my 1150 is a gel seat pad, supplied by an outfit called Saddlemen.

I got it through a local bike shop here in Mississauga for about a hundred bucks. It's probably about 50 bucks in the US....

It has a strap with velcro on it and you just attach the seat pad and adjust it to where it feels best. You can remove it easily and stash it in the saddlebag if you are worried about thieves.

Since I have the low seat it adds a little bit of height and feels very comfortable. It warms up nicely in the sun for a bit of a butt warmer on cold days.

It has a black, sheepskin type, wooly cover.

Much better than the full sheepskin thing that I used to use. Once those get wet and grimy it's all over. I washed mine in a washing machine and dried it a bit. The thing came out half the size and stiff as a board!

My stock seat seems fairly comfortable. Are the aftermarket ones that much better? I had an F650CS and the seat was like a 2x4 compared to the roadster. Corbin fixed that though. Never too much comfort though, ideally one could try them out beforehand.
