Hello all:

Planning an 8,000 mile trip in July. Running Conti Road Attacks now. Anyone know of a sticky tyre that would give me 8,000 miles? :?: I'd love to avoid having to do a tyre change during the trip.

I usually get at least 8k miles out of a set of Metzler Z6's. I tend to ride spirited and love the twisties. I have been wondering about the new Dunlop Roadsmart tires, I'll be ready for a set of tires soon. Last time I bought another set of Z6's mainly because I have been happy with them and didn't see any reason to tempt getting a tire I wasn't going to be happy with.

I took my last Pirelli Strada off at 15k because it had a nail in it. There was some left, and the front is still on there with 18k. I like the Stadas and I think you should be able to get 10k from them at least, but some guys get 5k from a tire no matter what it is. I think straight road and mild riding will yeid a lot of miles. Never hurts to plan a tire change in a long trip just in case. Most dealers will get travelers in on short notice.

I had Michelin Pilot Road 2's installed last june before a 14,000 km trip to San Diego and back to Montreal(8699 miles) and I am still riding on those tires.Single rider & camping gear for weight .Most of the travel was in hot to very hot weather ( 120F). Still tread left. Very good tire. :D
I always have new tires installed before a long trip just so I don't have to worry about finding a dealer or tire supplier in the middle of nowhere.

I am hoping a +1 on the Pilot Road 2 recs. I just put a pair on for an upcoming ~~8k ride. So far I am very pleased with their grip. I have gotten 13k+ from Metzler ME880 s (Marathons), but their grip was not as good as the PR2s. I have run Diablo Stradas to 8500 miles and they were sticky, though I think the PR2s may be stickier, still, I liked them.

Hey all:

Thanks for the feedback. Probably will go with Pilot Road 2's. I like the twisties, so stickum is important . . .used to run D208's but just didn't get any mileage out of them, especially if it was a hot summer.

I'll report back on the trip in August. Taking a laptop with me this time, so might do a blog :)
