The short version is: The FedEx Man brought me this today. :smt049 :smt055

(Full story can be found here:)

This is the front shock, just rebuilt by these fine folks (Janice - you are the greatest, and thanks for the lifesavers!!!

The rear shock arrived last week. It recently came from another BMW R1150R which was recently traded for an 800ST :) -

Both shocks are waiting to be installed in a couple of weeks when I have some time and ability to do so (or help).

That FedEx Man is S W E E T - always showing up with just what I want. He's coming back later this week with some dresses, shoes, blouses, and accessories too. What a guy!!! I think I'm in love! :smt055

Have fun. ;)

Sadly, Mrs. Sweatmark did not share this same enthusiasm when I bought her Ohlins as a birthday gift.
"...Eye of the beholder", I guess.

Maybe she would have been more more excited if the UPS guy had dropped them off at the house.

And MAYBE if he shows up with new clothes in boxes like my UPS man will be doing Friday. It's all in the delivery, ya know. Well a delivery helps too!

Kristi,

You got a picture of this Fed-X guy?

I bet it's just the uniform -or- you just need to get out more, after your functional recovery, of course.

At my house, it's not Fed-X, it's the UPS delivery guy. He's brought me some really cool (expensive) stuff over the last 4 years too, but I never quite developed any real feelings for the guy. [-( Even though he delivered all the 5 cardboard boxes of individual components, everything, that made the PC I'm using now. It was spread out over like 3 weeks too.

Can't say that my dog Sadie likes any of those delivery people. She goes into full-on red zone a ½ second after the doorbell rings.

Getting back to you and your new glow . . . . I know it's not just the pain killers talking. Modern medicine has given you another big chance to keep on doing what you do best. We're depending on it. You go girl!! =D>

Kristi, congrats for these fine swedish masterpieces. Mounting the rear shock is a no-brainer but for the front shock you need to get rid of the fuel-tank. You'll love riding with them!

And before falling in love with the fedex guy suggest you get yourself a copy of "The Postman Always Rings Twice".

Kind regards from good ol' Germany
Oliver

Come to think of it, I've never even looked at his face. Just his arms............... full of boxes addressed to me. Guess I better pay closer attention before I commit to love. However, the UPS man!!! He's got some nice lookin' legs. I know, because in Houston, they are in shorts about 80% of the time.

And can we discuss the correct pronunciation of Ohlins? Is it O- lens. or O - leens (as in New O'Leeens) ? Just would like to know.

oh, where do I start?

Of course give a hand to modern medicine...thanks, CR, and welcome back to the land of the vertical, Kristi

and it's Oh-Leens for the shocks (source Ted Porter of Ted's Beemershop)

uh oh, hit a nerve, here it comes, Off Topic in Off Topic

and it is NOT "O - leens (as in New O'Leeens)"

It is NOT O'Leeens.

This is the deal. This is the straight poop, ok?

Acceptable pronunciations of the Queen City of the South, The City That Care Forgot, The Crescent City, The Big Easy, my home town, include, and are limited to:

New Orl-E-uns - the most common pronunciation and closest to the French pronunciation Orl-i-aunnz

New Orl-yuns is ok

New Or-Luns or Or-Lens are ok

New Or-leens is completely accepted, though using it will immediately label you as a tourist--and that's fine; we like tourists a lot (within limits); also it is ok because of the song, "Do You Know What It Means, To Miss New Orleans," a song that is a completely emotional experience for any native, since the Katrina thing.

It's not rocket science though we have that, too, at the Michoud (Mee-Shoe) Assembly Facility

The one that will label you, immediately, as a tourist and/or an idiot is GnawLins, an incredibly ugly word for a very pretty city. This abomination was perpetrated on us by an XRay Tech/later feature story guy on a local TV station in a recurring color piece called, drum roll, rim shot, Natchally Nawlins.

end rant

Hey Mr. New Orleans - - - could you come get some of your misplaced O-leeeeeeeen- ians and bring them back to your crescent city? Cuz, here in U-ston, many have forgotten their way home.

And trust me on this; I look like a tourist in any city and in any country where I roam. And I sound like one too! So it doesn't matter what I call it, I'm labeled - even in my own town!

And why would Ted Porter be an expert on a Swedish name? The fine folks at Cogent did not pronounce it Oh-leens. They said Oh- lens. The fine folks at the Beemer shops in U-ston do not pronounce it Oh-leens either. Actually, there are no more strictly Beemer shops in U-ston.

Don't we have someone from Sweden on this board who can settle this?

I did get the opportunity to speak with an Oh-Leens rep about my shocks and that's how they pronounced it on the phone (the LEEN instead of Len)...but I still call it OhLEN cause...well it's the american way :D

I didn't get any Life Savers either :(

Yeah, it appears Dr. Strangelove and Ted Porter are correct. I'm with you on pronouncing it Oh-lens though.

The Lifesavers were a special touch, right? But I have a feeling the folks at Cogent, especially Joyce, just treat everyone special.

I chose not to get the Oh-Leens shocks, though if I found a good buy on some used ones I would've considered it.

I chose the Wilbers instead, pronounced Vilbers

I await their arrival

and Kristi, your home town is HOUSton, I couldn't find U-ston on the map...Texas, right? (El Sur se levantarán de Nuevo!!)

Of course, who could disagree that mispronunciation is protected by the 1st and 2nd ammendments?

And I know nothing about misplaced citizens. Are you saying that there are people, former New Orleanians, who prefer to remain in U-ston than return home to New Orleans?

Preposterous! Absurd! I am shocked! Shocked!

Are you sure you don't mean Houston?

sincerely
John

Hey Vann! Yes, I know I'm going to love the shocks. But I'll never forget the kindness and sweetness associated with Joyce who made the experience of dealing with a company unknown to me, such a pleasurable experience. What a great lady! And of course CycleRob helped me immeasurably by taking the extra step after I bought them, to have the front shock sent to Rick for the rebuild. I'm very grateful for the help of several good friends in recent days.

You are a lucky man with neighbors like that! Rick's website says he can do some wonders for my DR650 too, if I decide to keep it. Since I got my XT250, I'm toying with the thought of selling it. But it's the bike I'll ride if I choose to teach my daughter to ride the 250 this summer. Waiting to see how that goes before I decide to sell or not. She and me traveling together would be a real hoot!

Gypsy, The folks over at ADVrider all all over Ricks work on the DR rear shock. I can't decide if I'm gonna keep mine either but know If I deal it it will be fall, so I put a set of Eibech springs fronat and rear on mine and for a couple hundred bucks it made a huge difference. Not what Ricks work would do, but one heck of alot better than stock. Oh, and the Ohlins for the R, I put a set on my R12R last spring and, well just wait

Ain't it great to browse the internet and forums, pick out your piece of gear, order it online or by phone, and then the delicious anticipation of delivery day.

I got a pair of motoport Air-mesh Kevlar pants custom-fit (hey, they were less than the beemer Santiago's I liked that were $317, marked down from $399; HEY, the tourmaster complicated-3-part pants ripped in the store when I tried to cinch the waist; the olympia's were 4" too long and the armor was too low at the highest setting; that, and the GUILT about riding with only dragon jeans protection, well it just got to be too much...) on their way in a couple of weeks (after they lovingly stitch the parts together, just for me).

I found the solution to my gear/bags problem (get a bag designed for the job); I'm pouring over the reviews of the Motofizz bag (I'll buy yours if it's for sale!).

And my moto-boots are in the shop (SIX WEEKS to put an heel insert/shield/WTF thingy inside where the padding and leather are coming apart, DID I MENTION SIX WEEKS; is Little Rock the only town without a decent cobbler???) making me thinks I need 2 pair of m/c boots...

The list goes on...

Can't wait.
-dd.

dd,
I just bought a new par of BMW All Round boots to phase out he BMW Goretex boots that have over 60k miles on them. I wish I had bought 2 pair of the Goretex boots 6 years ago when they were on closeout at $77. The All round boots should be a good replacement/supplement for the old boots.

How do you like the All Arounds? I tried some on at the dealer's and found them 10x more comfortable than my Harley-Davidson boots and they don't look like space boots. The price was right, too. I even went back and tried them on a week later. In the end, though, I got Vendramini Daytonas. They do look like space boots and are more expensive by $75 but I decided I wanted something really waterproof for touring.

They aren't as quite as comfortable as the All Arounds but I have to assume they will break-in with use. I will probably end up getting All Arounds for around town later in the year, and put up with the Harley's in the meantime.
