Hello, Going to do a few things to the RR this year. I want to paint my windscreen (Cee Baileys). Does painting them degrade their physical integrity? I don't want to paint it and have it crack aprt under wind stress. Thanks

This is the http://www.r1150r.net website run graciously run by [email protected] for the owners of the BMW Motor Cycles...in particular R1100s, R1150s,and R1200s. That being said I have not seen a painted windscreen on anything but a couple - five+ year old japanese crotch rockets - and it always looks like sht.

I'd rather Stick a plastic films than use paint...many small businesses provide that type of custom service.

What is the project exactly ?
Why do you want to do that ?

Always thrilled as I am with innovations...
I wanted to stick something like a big clown transparent red nose
on the headlight to increase conspicuity.
But Don wrote me that he already tried it 20yrs ago....

Why paint? Why not get a tinted screen? Unless you're trying for somthing different.

Seems like I saw a painted screen on an R1200R on this forum. Looked OK to me. To each his own. Let's not stifle creativity.
I don't believe it would make the windshield less robust.

I painted one once on a café bike and it worked out well, at least I got a bunch of compliments on it. Although the bike never got a lot of miles on it , I don't believe the paint had any effect on the plastic (or whatever it was). If you do it make sure the surface is very very clean before you start and use multiple thin layers of paint. Remember that the bottom of the first layer is what people are going to see.
Over the years I've tried a bunch of different things on my machines, some ended up in the garbage but some worked out OK and it's fun watching people trying to figure out how you did something unique. Or maybe their trying just to figure out - WHY?

Indeed you did - Chitown did his.. eventually in two colors (sport shield from BMW..) a search on him should turn it up.

not a R1200R, but i have just got my screen back after having it painted.

Can't see how a bit of paint is going to jepodise the integrity of the screen.

Most auto paints are water based now
I had mine painted on both sides and the edges, its a solid black now and looks great. no point in having it clear.... idon't get down behind it

I think applying stickers to your screen would cause more damage
