Hi all

I decided to see if my bike, 1997 R850R has the standard or low seat fitted. Could someone who has either an 850 or 1100 check the part number under their seat and let me know what it is and whether it is a standard or low seat please??

A couple of numbers on mine are rubbed out so I don't have a complete number and therefore can't look it up online.

I'm thinking I need to verify what my bike has fitted before I go getting extra height added... could be I have a low seat and I just need to pick up a good used standard seat or even a high seat if one exists.

Do you have it on the highest setting?

Mine's an aftermarket seat, so I can't help with the part number...

RealOEM.com only shows one seat for 1997.

Yeah it's on the top, and I noticed that too on OEM... maybe it does mean there is only one offered.

I wonder if BMW do make high seats for these?

I'd love an aftermarket seat but they aren't cheap to start with and what with the whole global credit-thing our dollar only gets about .53cents US which means I have to double not only the item cost but the shipping too which just makes something like a $600 seat crazy-expensive.

There Is a local seat company who specialise in bike seats... kind of the local Mayer or Russell. Might end up going to them

One thing I've learned about aftermarket seats is that actually going to the person who will make it has a near 100% satisfaction rate, while ordering from a distance has around a 50% or less satisfaction rate.
I was lucky, my aftermarket seat came with the bike and suits me just fine.

afaik there was only one seat available for the R850R 1997 which could be adjusted in 3 positions (low, med, high). Please have a look at the drawing at RealOEM (http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do ... g=52&fg=05). The front seat holder can be adjusted to 3 different positions.

Lowering or up-bolstering the seat was usually done by aftermarket suppliers.
