Hi all,

I'm new here, be gentle :D

I have a '02 850r with the cast handle bars... I'm considering switching these out for the wunderlich touring tubular bars. Has anyone used these tubular bars before? Any opinions on them?

Cheers

Matt

Hello Matt,

I have repalced the cast handlebars of my R1100R with the "Sportego" (sold by Wunderlich but made by a company called LSL). I am very happy with this as the Sportego is more forward oriented. I suppose the "Touring" will be more relaxed - similar to the originals. However at the end of the day it all depends on your personal preferences and your "measurements".

Please be aware that replacing the handlebars (especially if you have heated grips!) is a task for a good afternoon and not for only an hour or so.

Best regards
Oliver

Thanks for your comments. I'm 6.3 and while the cast bars are ok, they're not great. I think the tubular bars will allow me to adjust the position more for my tastes.

Cheers

Matt

Hi Matt,

at the end of the day it's all a matter of the investment and what amount you're willing to shell out to optimize your bike. Certainly the tubular bars give you a little more choice to adjust your riding position. But is it worth the money spent? I have changed much on my R1100R and some of the investments are very expensive compared to the improvement felt (such as a rear Ohlins shock).

I firmly believe that ergonomics is a very personal thing and nobody can give you a real advice as our human construction differs from one individual to another. Hence I suggest if you're not happy with your riding position try to shoot the necessary equipment in some well known auction platform or maybe get in touch with Ricardo Kuhn (check out this http://patineto.smugmug.com/). Ricky has developed some adapters to use pro-taper handlebars in order to improve ergonomics. He has a workshop where he produces these ....

Best regards
Oliver

Have you thought of using barbacks?

I find my R850R setup just a wee bit to lean-forward and the first thing I'm going to do is get hold of some 25mm alloy plate and fab up some barbacks

it would certainly be cheaper and less hassle than swapping out bars

just a thought
