I need to do this upgrade. Does anyone know how well the Smallparts disconnect units compare to the CPC chrome plated brass quick disconnects sold at Beemer Boneyard?

I've installed Beemer Boneyard brasses. No problems, they're well built. PITA to remove those OEM clamps. Have patience... and Bandaids.

I got the Omegas, and I'm quite satisfied with them. I read everything, and could get no clear picture of the consensus recommendation. I've also dealt with Small Parts for other unrelated parts; they are an excellent company and I'm sure their QDs would make you proud. There have been some recent (past year or so) "lower cost" entries into the market, including Beemer Boneyard (another excellent company!) and, believe it or not, BMW has a new/improved replacement that is competitive, cost-wise anyway. I think any of these would be a step up.

Re: releasing the OEM clamps. A small screwdriver (small enough to get into the raised portion of the clamp) vigorously applied in a prying motion in various directions within the clamp will generally loosen the clamp up sufficiently to remove. Don't forget to pry a bit on the inside-ends of the hoses to try and gain release from the QDs. The key to both of these releases is plenty of vigorous prying action in many directions, applied with some force, to loosen both the clamp and the hose.

Amazing prices. Was £130 in the UK for locally supplied Omegas when I checked last year.

The people in UK get screwed every time. Things are no longer priced according to their real value, it seems to be based on what the vendor believes he can get for them. You might find it is cheaper to buy in the US and have them ship to you in UK.

A famous toothbrush manufacture sells German made toothbrush heads at £8.00 per pair in UK. In the Philippines the EXACT same item is £4.00.

My Hall sensor quit a while ago. The local Motorrad dealer told me the part would cost $500. I got one brand new from BeemerBoneyard for $230 + $40 shipping. It was in my hand 6 days later and fitted the next day for a nominal sum. Dont let them rape you, look around. The internet is a great leveler.

I've never had any problem/complaints with the quick disconnects on my 2002. Were there good and bad OE versions?

maduko, if you have the stock plastic QD's and have not had a problem with them, then you have been very lucky indeed. Those will break at the most inopportune time and leak fuel all over your engine. I broke one on my 04 RR just disconnecting it. Lucky for me I was at home when it happened, and already bought the new brass replacements.

I am very happy with the Omegas, at the time they were the only option posted in the BMW blogasphere. Mine did break one day, in 06, made do with a brass fitting barbed on both ends till the Omegas arrived. If you prefer the Buna or Viton o-rings, they are available at McMaster-Carr, a great company, for considerably less. Come to think of it, the fittings may be also.

I remember reading something about a recall on these, didn't know if that cured the problem or not.

I resisted abandoning the BMW black plastic QD's for years -until- my 6 year old set cracked open in my hands upon careful removal in my garage. After that I resisted again dropping the near $80 for the Qmega chrome plated brass QD's by employing 2 lengths of brass tubing. Then the leaky hassle of removal and a small cash windfall changed my mind. Wow! was it worth it !!! Those babies always slide together with smooth precision and look like they cost $200. I replaced the 6 year old rubber EFI fuel lines too. Total cost, almost $100 and less than an hour's time. Considering the $300+ wasted on the bike' insurance premium, it's money well spent.

The best part is . . . . no more worries ever again, especially when far away from home. What is that worth to you?

I finally ordered the brass QD's from BeemerBoneyard and should have them tomorrow. I guess I'm changing them this weekend!
