Missing Cap/Cover on Frame near raiders foot pegs

What is it with those missing black plastic caps on the frame.
I have read the posts about this, but I'm still struck by the fact that BMW are being so closed lipped about it.
One dealer here just shrugged his shoulders and the other looked at me like I was mad.
The original images of the R1200R and R1200GS show a cover on both sides of the bike.

There are caps on the Telelever swing arm where it connects to the frame, but the frame joint near each of the rider's footpegs is like a nastly sore on its body. It is wrong.
The story about water getting trapped there is possible but no different to any other point on the bike. Can't you just put a spot of grease inside to protect the area before you put the cap on.

What is it with this? Can you still order the part?
I don't want the aftermarket machined aluminium part - I want the original BMW bit.

On my bike, the left side has a plastic cap but the right side does not. I couldn't figure that one out.

Obviously this is a Bavarian mind control conspiracy against a select audience.

The cap is missing off the side with the "Final Drive", right side.
I'm told this is a design feature, to allow any condensation / water to drain away.
That is why the cap is missing.

Here is some more info:

Dunno if it is a feature but that is how they come. Back when I got my bike, I thought it had fallen off and the dealer showed me all the others on the showroom floor were the same. :-k

I know you want the BMW part - but the Hornig part is simply inconspicous if you get it in black - and it has a hole to allow moisture to evaporate out,

Unfortunately, it is quite conspicous on your wallet. In the end I found the "hole" made my bike look so unfinshed that I bit the bullet .. no pics with it on but you simply fail to notice now (after all those $$ ) Here is mine with every thing else lookin' grand and the "hole" lookin' ugly

I had almost the same deal, a Harley riding friend (I did say he's a rider) had me going crazy about the missing (he said fell off) part. A call to the dealer didn't help, his statement 'their all like that' rang all the wrong bells. Lots of looking on the internet and at a few other bikes convinced me the dealer was right. But it sure looks unfinished.
