Missing Cap/Cover on Frame near raiders foot pegs

What is it with those missing black plastic caps on the frame.
I have read the posts about this, but I'm still struck by the fact that BMW are being so closed lipped about it.
One dealer here just shrugged his shoulders and the other looked at me like I was mad.
The original images of the R1200R and R1200GS show a cover on both sides of the bike.
There are caps on the Telelever swing arm where it connects to the frame, but the frame joint near each of the rider's footpegs is like a nastly sore on its body. It is wrong.
The story about water getting trapped there is possible but no different to any other point on the bike. Can't you just put a spot of grease inside to protect the area before you put the cap on.
What is it with this? Can you still order the part?
I don't want the aftermarket machined aluminium part - I want the original BMW bit.
