Tuning Brass Screws and manometer

I tried the trick of building a manometer using the 1/4 pipes, filled with some water, but to what extend should the brass screws be turned, 1 turn, 1.5 or 2 turns before starting with the balancing. I know these must have a effect on the air/fuel mixture and I am afraid that my bike can end up to lean or waisting a lot of Arab juice.
Please advice?

Hi there.
I didn't bottom out and measure the two brass screws before I started.
My tickover / idle was about 850 / 900 rpm. So I'm not sure of the total
number of turns out. I made and connected the gauge up just to check as my tickover was low.
With the obvious difference in readings, I decided to have a small twist......
After I had synched them and then turned them both together to increase the idle speed
to 1150rpm, I noticed they had both moved about 45 degrees.
Mixture / Fuel ratio is unaffected. I believe the injection system sorts the mixture out.
Somebody might correct me on this though!

If you haven't done the sync before, idle and TB's take the brass screws completely out, don't worry about counting turns, and clean them (as you will find a fair ampount of coating on them). Also clean the threads and spray a little WD 40 in the hole.
Take the brass screws and thread them back in until they seat lightly then back each screw out 1 1/2 turns.
Start the bike and proceed to move the screws in/out the same amount until the diff manometer zeroes and your rpm is around 1100.

After my 1st TB balance,
while things were improved, the bike still wasn't "right".
Removed screws as suggested......
Covered in black burnt on rubbish.
Cleaned with celulose thinners and back in......
The bike is so different, I can't believe it.
Buy some pipe, Clean the screws as Boxermania suggests, Balance the TBs......
My Rock has only done 20k and I didn't realise how ill it was. VASTLY improved for less than a tenner.
