I have another post I just started today, but with all the threads about Spline Failure it's making me very nervous about my big trip next week, so I thought I would start a thread so people can tell everyone how many miles they have on their bike without any signs of a spline failure yet so that it will boost my confidence in my bike next week. I'll start....

2003 R1150R, just over 20,000, no failures yet.

I had 12K on mine before her untimely demise. A buddy has 120K on an '02 1150GS, 100k using Fram oil filters . No problems with either.

55,000 miles in five years and four months, and the only problems I've had are a.) a broken fuel QD (which I replaced with a brass insert) and b.) a little bit of minor (and I do mean minor) weepage from the final drive seal (not the final drive gears), which was easily fixed (since I was just out of warranty, BMW split the cost with me).

That's it! Just ride it and change the fluids (including the final drive oil) and don't worry about it.

2004, 21k miles, no problems. Regular 6k and annual maintenance schedule at my dealer, but I do the in between oil changes at 3k miles.

36k. A couple of leaky seals, but noting bad.

73,900+...a few.

Nothing major so far...unless you count that stripped frame bolt I buggered up trying to remove my slave cylinder for cleaning. That was major for me. But thanks to a good neighbor, the problem became a non-issue rather rapidly.

2003, ~26,000 miles with no real issues.

Been to the dealer only for the initial service and one follow-on. Other than that, I've done all the regular and PM as well as some very minor other work - replacing the Oetiker fuel line clamps with screw-type, getting rid of the plastic QD's for Omegas and wiring in a SM.

That's terrible, I started this thread to boost my confidence in my bike and you drop that on me!?

I'm just kidding, mine has 20,000 so I should still have a ways to go before I have to worry about it.

A little sidenote.....my bike has been sitting outside for days now due to us moving and the garage being too full, so I went for a ride yesterday and it was making an AWFUL knocking/pinging/ticking noise so I went home pissed off, thought about it, and remembered someone praising this Sea Foam stuff, so I went and bought some thinking I just had rain in my tank, or condensation, filled it up with new gas, and the bike runs amazingly well now. It idles better, the sound is gone, it isn't as choppy when you let off the throttle, no hesitations when I give it full throttle, that stuff really is incredible. My hat's off to the genius that invented that stuff.

Rock 1 - no failures in 1100ish miles

Rock 2 - 42,000 miles:

• Clutch shaft spline failure ~ 40,000
• Clutch slave-cylinder misalign ~ 30,000
• Final drive seal
• Gearbox output seal (possibly twice)
• rear shock fail (weeping) ~ 35,000 (I think - can't remember which bike it was actually)

Rock 3 - 47,000 miles

• rear shock fail (weeping) ~ 44,000
• Final drive seal

I don't particularly worry about the drive shaft seals - they're never more than a light weep so now i'm not bothering to get it fixed.

62,000+ miles, nothing major. Like others, a leaky/weeping final drive seal (fixed under warranty), primary ignition coil (my dine for repairs) and the hall sensor (fixed under warranty). Outside of that, lots of maintenance, but nothing out of the ordinary.
BTW, none of those 'problems' left me stranded on the side of the road.

My 2003 yellowjacket has 21k and no major problems. My ex's brother now has 64k on a 2004 non ABS, with zero problems.

Rockster (non-ABS) - 70K miles
Rear seal (warranty)
Both primary coils (~$150)

purchased March 2002

A pinhole leak in the fuel distributor, summer 2005, has been the only big repair bill.

I sold my beloved R1150R last may, it had 248,746 miles. It had the original set of tires and battery.......the oil and filter was changed religiously every 3000 miles. The plugs were changed every 100K miles and the valves adjusted at that time. The bike never suffered the following:

1) Surging, due to extreme lean condition in closed loop operation
2) Broken wires due to tight crimping of nylon ties, predominantely on the wire bundle attached to the right down tube.
3) Problems with fuel leaks past mechanically crimped clamps on the fuel lines.
4) Leaks or breakage of the plastic fuel line quick connects
5) Leaks of the clutch slave cylinder
6) Leaks out of the rubber joint between the drivesghaft and the diferential
7) THE DREADED CLUTCH SPLINE FAILURE THAT FOR ALL WE KNOW BMW HAS LABELED IT AS AN "CT OF GOD"
Substandard differential bearings on the early models
9) No squeal out of the front brakes

Last but not least, my bike averaged 65 mpg during it's life.

That being said, you would ask, why does he want to sell the bike.....well the bottom line is that I'm a bit heavy with a bad knee and have difficulty mounting the bike.....I still have the passion so I'm buying a walk through scooter....600+ cc and adding a turbo....and then.....

Will roll over 41K next week with no major issues. Actually, no minor issues either!

I thought I had a rear FD leak but at an oil change captured the drained oil and had precisely! the correct amount that should have been there. Decided it was nothing and rode on!

I just crossed 31k miles today. Bought the 04 R new in May 05, and beside a blown indicator bulb, have not had any issues at all....yet.

I'm still waiting for something bad to happen.
I've been riding at least 8k miles with a ratchety buzz that I can hear thru my earplugs and feel in the pegs whenever I'm over 3k rpm....but it has not gotten any worse.
I've checked the clock, rocker end play, RT CCT (removed, cleaned & re-oiled but did not shim), and every nut and bolt in the vicinity....all check fine. The left CCT is the upgraded model, so I have not checked that.
I ride pretty hard and I can't break it!
