Engine control chip

Hi everybody.....
I have a 1996 r1100r. Just wondering how a new engine control chip works, if it works, if it's worth it to install and potential problems is might cause. I saw one for sale on eBay and was thinking of getting it but I fear that it just might open up a whole new can of worms. Anybody out there have any experience wit this?

What is in the new chip which 50 BMW design engineers left out of the old one?

I have a year 96 R1100R. The fuel injection systems runs very well. It is a motronic system developed by Bosch

Save your money and buy a decent DMM and Manometer so that you can get the timing and injection set-up pretty much perfect

Aftermarket control chips (installed in the motronic-unit) usually lift the rpm barrier and enrich the fuel/air mix. However the effect is minimal and usually should be accompanied by other changes (pistons, cams, etc). Replacing the original BMW chip with a newer BMW chip is nonsense and just a waste of money.
