BMW pride!
I'm woundering why so many beamer riders don't show their pride, the big 4 from japan all get even HD you see the logos everywhere. I want to get more logo stuff if you know where to get it.

Re: BMW pride!
From what I understand, BMW is pretty restrictive in who it licenses its mark to. That means you can only buy BMW branded or logo'd stuff from a BMW shop which are few and far between. Even then, they only have a few items and then at prohibitive costs. They do sell a number of things of interest in their print catalog if you can get one.toddprosky wrote:I'm woundering why so many beamer riders don't show their pride, the big 4 from japan all get even HD you see the logos everywhere. Re: BMW pride!
I too wish BMW merchandise was more available. Seems only in a BMW dealership. You can't walk thru hardly any store without tripping over something with HD on it. You have to give it to HD though. They know marketing!
Seems I read some time back that HD had surpassed GM in $$. Although now GM is struggling big time, along with most of the big auto manufacturers.

Re: BMW pride!
I think that wearing BMW shirts caps etc. when not riding or in a riding environment could label someone as a showoff. I have a bunch of Motorad shirts and caps, but always careful where I wear it. I think people may think I'm trying to show off that I own a BMW.
Just my opinion, but I like to mix with the crowd and not be thought of as an elitist. Most people don't own BMWs or Jaguars, or Mercedes etc..
my 2 cents

Re: BMW pride!
I just bought a BMW shirt from Orlando BMW last week. I wear it because it is a conversation piece and I like it. Did I buy my BMW there? No, but I picked up an air filter and oil filter just because I was there.

Re: BMW pride!
Perhaps it is a little pretentious. The older I get, the less I care. I do like wearing my rally shirts, which usually sport the BMW logo. Often people who are current or former beemer riders will come up and talk about bikes. If I'm feeling really snobbish, I'll wear a BMWMOA shirt.gel9001 wrote:I think that wearing BMW shirts caps etc. when not riding or in a riding environment could label someone as a showoff. I have just about worn out My r1150r beakster shirt, I have found it to be a great conversation piece. If they are ever minted again I would get 2 more. The Wifes looks like new yet, while Mine is tattered and dirty. I have no problem wearing BMW logos' since I've owned several cars and bikes with the logo. If You've owned and worked on your Beemers you should be proud of that fact. I have found BMW cars and bikes among the easiest vehicles to maintain and repair, and I'm not afraid to tell anyone.
I'm definitely proud to own My Beemers.

Re: BMW pride!
I have a hat with the BMW motorcycle logo and a couple of t-shirts with the same. I also have a cloth BMW patch on my leather riding jacket. If I could easily find more (affordably) I would have more. My R is 4 years old and is my 2nd. I ride 'em, work on 'em, and I wreck 'em. And I'm proud of it!

Re: BMW pride!
I am not sure wearing a tasteful BMW clothing item could be considered elitist, considering the hordes of HD fans wandering the country with 2 to 4 HD branded items showing at all times. And that is not counting the possibility of HD undies!
And my bike costs less than most of the butt-jewelry Hardleys cruising the highways!
I have a hat and some tee shirts. I would wear more but like other items BMW related, they are too expensive!

Re: BMW pride!
I kind of like the fact that BMW is somewhat understated. To be honest, that is what totally puts me off the Harley Davidson, not that I don't like the bike but I really don't like the automatic image that comes with it as a result of all of the branding and marketing. Like wncbmw says above, I can't ride past a guy on a Harley without thinking that poor bastard paid as much for all his "Harley" endorsed accessories as he did for the bike!
It would be a shame if BMW followed suit.

Re: BMW pride!
I like a good mix in my bmw logo gear. Like a good worn t-shirt that has bmw moto stuff. It says I love my BMW bike, and yet I'm not bragging that I own a BMW. Besides its a motorcycle, it doesn't cost that much. A HD costs WAY more than a BMW bike. But I suppose most people don't know that.
Re: BMW pride!
I wear what I want, and don't give a red rat's butt what anyone else thinks. 99% of people don't give a red rat's butt what someone else is wearing either.
Re: BMW pride!
Only slighty on-topic but last fall while taking a break at a little store along the Parkway, a large Hardley group cruised into the same parking lot. 10 bikes. 20 riders. Every single one with a half-helmet. Every one with a black leather jacket. 18 out of 20 with black chaps.
I very nearly walked over to ask where the Village People reunion tryouts were but figured discretion was better and rode off! It seems sometimes it is more about a fashion statement than the ride.
One thing that seems more prevalent at a gathering of, say the Beakster Bash, is concern with practical and protective riding gear, instead of branding or fashion. Most of us seem to buy the best gear we can afford and disregard fashion. And we have the pictures to prove it!
That said, I have moved to nearly all Micro Fiber riding shirts and would have no problem buying one of those fancy BMW shirts like that if they didn't cost more than 3 of the ones I usually buy!

Re: BMW pride!
I have a black leather jacket but it is from my pre-BMW days! In keeping with brand loyalty I had sewn on the breast a cloth BMW patch. It barely covers the old HD patch.

Not a corporate sponsor I'm afraid, but have my dead head sticker on the mud flap and a GD patch on the jacket, and in India and Oz no-one knows what they symbolize...kinda like it like that...

Re: BMW pride!
BMW seems to want to play it cool and remain part of the elite scene. They are very protective of their logo.
I have only two patches on my jacket: BMW and Norton. I ride BMW now and started my riding on Nortons. They mean something only to me and most people wouldn't even notice them.

Re: BMW pride!
I know where you can get an excellent wheelcap with a logo.
I was dreaming when I wrote this, forgive me if it goes astray...
Re: BMW pride!
Take a look at Bob's BMW. I have gotten some great T-shirts from that site. Retro theme stuff and more modern as well. Not just the roundel on a pocket, either.
