Hi
I would like to know when at what fuel level the yellow light should go on on r11r 2001? While were at it how much fuel should the oem tank hold.....................THANK YOU!!!!

To be exact : It is 21Litres/5.54 US Gallons full capacity.
With the the low fuel light coming on at 6Litres/1.58 gallons left in the tank.
Reckon a max of 200 miles between fill-ups and you can't go wrong.

Well THANK YOU very much for your reply. Some people have quoted the owners handbook, for r11r 2000 not 2001l stating 4.5 gallons in the oem tank in the 2000 model so there is some confusion. I would just like to be sure??? THANK YOU very much!!!!

I just got an 01 r1100r, I heard the tan was 5.5 gallons but the owners manual states 4.5 gallons. ??? The light comes on when I get to about 160 miles which would be good if the tank is 4.5 gallons. What's up ?

OK...well, evidently there is some confusion around on the Internet and owners groups!
I have accessed published online "BMW" specs that say that the capacity of the R1100R tank is 5.5
US Gallons.....! As I previously posted, some state 21Litres/5.54
US Gallons full capacity.
With the the low fuel light coming on at 6Litres/1.58 gallons left in the tank.
Well, after eyeballing the tank, running a few tankfuls and having the low fuel light come on a couple of times, I believe I have an answer!
In the Riders Manual (US model) on page 21, it states the R1100R tank capacity as 4.48 gallons (17 Litres) with the low fuel light coming on at 1.1 US gallons (4 litres) and, twice, my low fuel light came on with about 1 gallon left in it and so I put around 3.4. to 3.5 gallons in it, filling it up to the neck!
So......I can definitely state that the tank capacity on MY 2000 model year Y (7/99 build date, US Model) holds the stated 4.48 gallons - which is per my BMW Riders Manual.
My gas mileage, using 89 octane (midgrade) has been between 45 and 47mpg.
